"<strong>The</strong> objective <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Shariah</strong> is <strong>the</strong> well-be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
people, which lies <strong>in</strong> safeguard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir faith ( (D<strong>in</strong>), <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
self ( (Nafs), <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>tellect ( ('Aql), <strong>the</strong>ir posterity ( (Nasl)) and<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir wealth ( (Mal). Whatever ensures <strong>the</strong> safeguard <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>se five pr<strong>in</strong>ciples serves public <strong>in</strong>terest and is<br />
desirable, and whatever hurts <strong>the</strong>m is aga<strong>in</strong>st public<br />
<strong>in</strong>terest and its removal is desirable" (al-Ghazali<br />
