Talent Show Packet 2013 - Webb School of Knoxville

Dear Lower School Families,
I know that you can hardly believe that we are sending out talent show information for
March 2013; however, planning and organizing the talent show requires several
months of planning. We typically highlight over 60 acts during our two-day
celebration. We have learned that sending this information “early” benefits everyone
involved in the show.
Please read this packet carefully and pay special attention to the checklist page
that includes the deadlines for each phase of the talent show.
Who: Lower School students in grades 1-5
What: Talent Show
When: Wednesday, March 20 and Thursday, March 21
1:00pm – 3:00pm
Where: Bishop Center (Central Building)
Why: Show all of our wonderful talents!
Participation in the Talent Show is completely voluntary. Students in grades 1 – 5 who
are interested in participating will complete an entry form with their parents (one per
act) and return the entry form to school no later than Thursday, January 31. Of course,
entry forms will be gladly accepted anytime before the final deadline - Thursday,
January 31.
All students are required to attend the tryout session on Friday, February 22, 3:15pm –
4:30pm. Parents may not attend the tryout session; parents may pick-up their child in
the after school club car line at 4:30pm. If your child is playing a musical instrument,
he/she should not attend the tryout session. Mrs. Britt will meet with your child during
school hours the week of February 25 - March 1 for a performance tryout.
Once your child returns the entry form and attends the tryout session, he/she is
expected to practice the act (outside of school) and participate in the show on an
assigned day (Wednesday or Thursday). The school will publish a performance day
schedule closer to those dates.
If your child is in first grade or he/she did not participate in the 2012 talent
show, a parent is required to attend an informational meeting in order for the
child to participate. The informational meetings are scheduled for Thursday, January
10 at 5:00pm – 5:45pm or Monday, January 14, 9:00am – 9:45am. The meetings will
take place in the Lower School Library.
This is a parent-only informational meeting and children should not attend; we will
meet with the students at school to review talent show guidelines and expectations
too.

Talent Show Guidelines – there are absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS to these
guidelines:
• Maximum of 8 participants per act (this includes faculty if you elect to have a
faculty member join your act);
• Act may be no longer than three minutes;
• All skits must have a prepared script to submit on the tryout day;
• Song lyrics may not include inappropriate references (alcohol, drugs, slang,
violence, body parts, etc.);
• Song lyrics must be included with the entry form;
• All music must be approved by the Student Council committee;
• Music must be played for approval on the tryout day;
• Be prepared to discuss your costume at the tryout meeting – you do not need to
bring it with you; however, have an idea of what you are planning to wear in the
show;
• No rehearsal may be scheduled to happen at school or in the Bishop Center at
anytime (before, during, or after school; recess; after care);
• Practices should be scheduled after school hours and take place off campus;
• Practices are the responsibility of the families within the specific act;
• No weapons—real or toy (swords, guns, knives, blood, etc.);
• Water, bubble machines, and smoke machines may NOT be used in an act;
• No animals may participate in an act;
• The Bishop Center piano will be tuned before the performance day; however, it
is not a concert piano.

2013 MUSIC GUIDELINES FOR
LOWER SCHOOL TALENT SHOW
Below are the guidelines for turning in talent show music:
No questionable lyrics allowed - in appropriate references to alcohol, drugs,
slang, violence, body parts, etc.
All music must be on a CD.
CD must be in a hard, protective case.
Music may last a maximum of 3 minutes. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Music must be cued up so that the song begins in the correct spot upon playing.
Complete form below and tape to the outside of CD case. (See completed
example below.)
Return CD with its case and the completed form to Cyndi Steverson or Kristie
Atwood no later than Friday, March 8. You may want to make a copy of the
music to keep for practice purposes, as the copy turned in will be returned after
Spring Break.
