CWS-Flex – Control
and Warning System
for Ground Based
Air Defense (GBAD)
CWS-Flex is based on an open and flexible system architecture that
allows for integration of multiple sensor and weapon systems, making
the system able to counter any aircraft threat. CWS-Flex supports
customer-specified solutions with a high degree of freedom in the
selection of weapons and sensors.
Major features of CWS-Flex:
Fully prepared for joint, combined, and network operations using
international standardized data links and protocols, such as
Link 11, Link 16, NFFI, LLAPI, Asterix, and ADat-P3
Operates in real-time providing total air picture throughout the
distributed system with extensive map support capabilities
Offers operators simultaneous, coordinated control of multiple types
of sensors and weapons – also enabling layered operation
Deployable on different operational levels
Extensive simulation and training capabilities.

awareness in real-time.

Track Management
The real-time capability is centered around the Track Management
component, with the purpose to form a common operational picture
based on the information received from all available sensors and
data links. This way, the operators receive a simultaneous, coordinated
situation awareness in real-time to support informed and timely
decision-making.
AIR SPACE MANAGEMENT
With in-depth experience in the air space management field, Terma
provides means to divide the airspace into customized safe areas and
engagement zones for CWS-Flex. The system is also able to utilize
these areas to conduct automated identification of air and ground
tracks for threat evaluation or de-confliction purposes.
THREAT EVALUATION AND WEAPON ALLOCATION
A built-in Threat Evaluation and Weapon Allocation (TEWA) process
can automatically evaluate tracks to determine the threat level of
each track. Tracks can automatically be assigned for either automatic
or manual engagement based upon the identified threat level. The
TEWA process is able to automatically assign tracks to the weapon
with the highest probability of successful engagement.
RULE ENGINE
The system comes with a sophisticated Rule Engine, where rules and
rule sets can be designed and activated by the operators while still
operating the system. The Rule Engine can be set to analyze specific
system input, and based on user-defined actions, the system can automatically
alert operators, engage targets, send messages, etc.
