We would also like to take the privilege of expressing our gratitude towards the OEMs with whose support we are marching ahead to become the No. 1 Water treatment component company in the coming years. We have always believed in the combined power of water OEM community which consists of more than 2000 small- medium businesses, transacting more than Rs 1000 crores of annual business and generating employment for more than 25,000 people. These figures are growing with more than 25% on year on year basis. These businesses have their own excitement and challenges of growth in areas of technology, marketing, services and competition. We strongly believe, that by bringing all these businesses on a common platform, this community can be transformed into a powerful unit which will not only benefit the individual businesses but would also resolve many common issues. We would like to mention a few of the key initiatives here which will not only improve the OEM business but would also change the face of Water OEM business in the country. One of those is the Aventura OEM Partnership Program (AOPP), a platform to empower and support all these businesses to become more efficient at the marketplace. Furthermore, we have also started making attempts to go more regional in our approach by coming up with Marketing collaterals in Vernacular languages. Installation of Rosemount® wireless flow and pressure transmitters on two new storage tanks has provided an opportunity to better understand water usage throughout the plant, to trial the wireless technology, and to create a network for cost-effectively adding new process instrumentation in the future Drinking Water Week: Communities urge protection of source water As Drinking Water Week 2011 concludes, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) joins water professionals across North America in encouraging the protection of our precious source waters. In the past year, media reports about trace amounts of various contaminants in drinking water have underscored the connection between what is released into the environment and what finds its way to our source water. Purifying water with zinc oxide nanorods and visible light Researchers at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have found a way to eliminate bacterial contamination from water using visible light and zinc oxide nanorods. The ZnO nanorods, grown on glass substrates and activated by solar energy, have been found to be effective in killing both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The nanorods were tested on Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis bacteria, commonly used as model microbes. In the dark, ZnO dissolves slowly, releasing zinc ions, which have antibacterial properties. Under well-lit conditions, the effect is doubled with both photocatalysis and zinc ions contributing to killing microbes. SERVICE TIPS NEW TECHNOLOGY National news Tips for Membrane Cleaning Membrane Cleaning should be done immediately when one of the following symptoms is detected: • Loss of 10 to 15% in the normalized permeate flow rate • Decrease of 0.5% in salt rejection • The differential pressure increases by 15% from reference conditions • It is important to normalize flow and salt content of the permeate according to normalization procedure. It serves as a pretreatment for surface water, seawater, and biologically treated municipal effluent before reverse osmosis and other membrane systems. UF is also used in industry to separate suspended solids from solution. Industrial applications include power generation, food and beverage processing, pharmaceutical production, biotechnology, and semiconductor manufacturing. New Storm Water Chamber Introduced By Ads The new StormTech® chamber developed to contain and control storm water runoff in an underground system is now available from Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS). The StormTech MC-4500 chamber is designed in accordance with AASHTO and ASTM design standards, making it a qualified choice for use in commercial and municipal projects.
