MP <strong>com</strong>mends Trust’s efforts<br />
Changes, the <strong>com</strong>munity drug<br />
and alcohol team for mid Essex,<br />
hosted a visit by local MP Simon<br />
Burns, to help spread local<br />
awareness of the growing need<br />
for resources to help people<br />
who misuse alcohol or drugs.<br />
The team offers help to people with<br />
physical dependencies who are ready<br />
to <strong>com</strong>mit to make a crucial change in<br />
their lives and their families.<br />

MP has visited one of our teams.<br />
The Mid Essex Early Intervention in<br />
PsychosisTeam is based in central<br />
Chelmsford and works out in the<br />
<strong>com</strong>munity with people who are<br />
experiencing, or are at risk of<br />
experiencing, a first episode of<br />
psychosis. It aims to identify and treat<br />
symptoms early to promote recovery.<br />
Mr Lansley said:“Today has been a great<br />
opportunity to meet staff providing<br />
mental health services which is a vital<br />
part of NHS care.The team’s focus on<br />
14 to 35 year olds is, I believe, an<br />
essential part of mental health services.<br />
I met an impressive team of highly<br />
qualified people, all of whom are<br />
<strong>com</strong>mitted to helping not only<br />
individuals, but also their friends, families<br />
and carers too. It has been a great<br />
pleasure to meet them”.<br />
Clinical manager Rachel Lofthouse said<br />
"We believe that mental health problems<br />
are just like physical problems.‘Psychosis‘<br />
is used to describe a number of<br />
symptoms which are often grouped<br />
together, just like ‘flu‘ is used when<br />
someone has aching muscles, a<br />
headache, and a sore throat.<br />
Mr Burns joins other local leaders in a<br />
growing interest in how to fight rising<br />
levels of alcoholism which is thought<br />
to affect one in five in Essex.<br />
Liam Flanagan, manager of Changes,<br />
said:‘Our highly experienced team<br />
offers practical support and expert<br />
care.We respect confidentiality and<br />
treat everyone without prejudice.’<br />
Psychosis can be very frightening but it<br />
can be successfully treated. The sooner<br />
intervention takes place, the better,<br />
which is why our team is here”
