15.4.5 Connect Message
On completion of the link layer procedures the Gateways indicate to each other their local modem
parameters using the CONNECT message. This message contains information about the local
modem modulation, data-signalling rate, error correction and compression selection and
parameters.

local PSTN link.

10: V.29
11: V.27 ter
12: V.26 ter
13: V.26 bis

31…63: Reserved for ITU-T: these values are not interpreted by the receiver.
6:7 Compression Direction: † If compression was negotiated, this field contains the
compression direction parameter from the Gateway. The following values are allowed:
0: No compression.
1: Only in transmit direction (Gateway to modem)
2: Only in receive direction (modem to Gateway)
3: Both directions
