The ceilidhs at Sidmouth <strong>Folk</strong> Week tend to have<br />
a high prole, but as James Garrett reports, <strong>2013</strong><br />
promises to feature a very full schedule for the<br />
folk dancers of all interests.<br />
The Social Dance Programme - co-ordinated<br />
by Malcolm Storey - offers a denitive, attractive<br />
presence at Sidmouth focusing on the fantastic<br />
custom-built Stowford Rise Community Centre.<br />
Then there’s nightly in-town dances, morning<br />
workshops in Blackmore Gardens and a range<br />
of town based workshops through the week.<br />
Quantity and quality are assured with the artists<br />
already booked for a wide range of workshops and<br />
dance events.<br />
Callers include: the wonderful Cis Hinkle from<br />
Atlanta, Georgia with irresistible contras and fast<br />
moving squares; The Wrights of Licheld offering<br />
Playford to New England Squares and Contras,<br />
both old and new, simple and complex; Ivan<br />
Aitken bringing a mixed programme including<br />
Playford, Pat Shaw and Scottish; Frances<br />
Richardson with everything from Playford<br />
to Scottish Country Dance; Les Barclay with<br />
Kentucky Running Set, a Dance Technique series<br />
and Community Dance Evenings; Joe Hodgson,<br />
back with New England squares and contras and<br />
English traditional dance; Jerry O’Reilly returning<br />
for Irish Set Dance Workshops and Madeleine<br />
Smith offering Golden Oldies from the Classic<br />
Playford Repertoire and much more.<br />
Bands and musicians conrmed include:<br />
Pendragon, English Contra Dance Band,<br />
Moonlighting, Momentum, The Jovial Crew Band,<br />
Meter Rite and Mollie Koenigsberger.<br />
Special Dance Nights at Stowford Rise include<br />
a Playford Ball with David and Kathryn Wright,<br />
an Anglo Scottish Night with Ivan Aitken, a<br />
Celtic Evening with Jerry O’ Reilly and Frances<br />
Richardson, an English Country Dance<br />
Night with Madeleine Smith and a grand night<br />
of contras and squares with Cis Hinkle and The<br />
English Contra Dance Band.<br />
