Marty buried h<strong>is</strong> head in h<strong>is</strong> hands as he sat in front of the computer reading h<strong>is</strong> latest e-mail.<br />

Troubled Yeah. Confused Definitely. Scared Very. And if the sender of the e-mail thought it<br />

would make things better by saying it was all only a story, whatever that meant, it was only making<br />

things worse. H<strong>is</strong> life was complicated enough as it was. The author's addy What author The<br />

Marty couldn't bear it any longer. He couldn't bear all those people trying to convince him that he was<br />

fictional. He wasn't... he wasn't... he was real, wasn't he Marty stared desperately at the computer<br />

screen, as if begging it to reply. Wasn’t he<br />

Outside, the sun was setting. Marty m<strong>is</strong>erably shut down the computer, took h<strong>is</strong> skateboard and skated<br />

off.<br />

He spotted Jennifer outside Burger King with some of her friends. She turned, saw him, and came over,<br />

waving goodbye to her friends.<br />

“Going home” she asked.<br />

“Yeah,” Marty answered softly, flipping h<strong>is</strong> skateboard up into h<strong>is</strong> hand.<br />

Jennifer looked at him for a while, biting her lip. “Marty, what’s wrong” she asked after some time.<br />

“What d’you mean” he asked in return. “<strong>Not</strong>hing’s wrong…”<br />
