The initial / first FAFSA submitted each year is a
‘Snapshot in Time’
Questions asked from three different reference points:
• The Past
The previous tax year.
• Today
The day you submit your initial FAFSA for each
specific academic year.
• The Future
The upcoming academic year (July 1 – June 30).
Note: These ‘time‐framed’ questions are asked
throughout the FAFSA.
