Domenica Devine, a BS<br />

Biochemistry major, worked at<br />

the Institute for the Study of<br />

Early Events in Photosynthesis<br />

at Arizona State University<br />

with Dr. Robert Blankenship on<br />

an NSF grant. She studied<br />

solar energy storage by photo-<br />

synthetic organisms.<br />

KyIe Findly, a BA Chemis-<br />

try major, spent the summer at<br />

the University of New Mexico<br />

on an NSF grant working with<br />

Dr. Robert T. Paine synthe-<br />

sizing polymeric precursors for<br />

pporous BN ceramic materials.<br />

Brett Moore, BS Bio-<br />

chemistry major, received a<br />

Summer Internship position<br />

with Amgen, Inc., in Thousand<br />

Oaks. He worked with Michael<br />

Kelly. The purpose of the in-<br />

ternship is to provide a com-<br />

plete learning experience and<br />

to introduce students to a<br />

growing company in the bio-<br />

technology industry.<br />

JefYrey White, BS Bio-<br />

chemistry major, worked with<br />

Medix Biotech, Inc., in a rapid<br />

test development group on im-<br />

munoassays, ELISA and lateral<br />

flow, electrophoresis and con-<br />

jugation of antibodies to tracer<br />

molecules and testing samples.<br />

Medix is a Genzyme Co.. locat-<br />

ed in the San Francisco Bay<br />

Area.<br />

a letter from Ivan Legg, Chairman of the Committee on Education of the American Chemical<br />

Society, faculty and students were informed that the <strong>CSULB</strong> Chapter had been chosen as a<br />

Commendable Chapter for 1993-94.<br />

On hand to receive a plaque during the awards ceremony at the National ACS Meeting in Ana-<br />

heim on April 2 were SAACS members, Judith Ramillano and Kyle Findly. The chapter was again<br />

honored at the 1995 Ed rds Night of the Southern California Section of the ACS. Present<br />

to receive the al---- h- -- '(yle Findly and Mirta Gaus, and Dr. Ken Marsi. Advisor.<br />
