In a few short weeks, your son/daughter will be graduating from Sahuaro High School. We are proud of your student’s accomplishments, and wish you and your family happiness in the future. The following information will be shared with all seniors. Please call us if you have additional questions. Honors and Awards May 13, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Auditorium Baccalaureate • Baccalaureate, Friday, May 17 th , 6:00 p.m. in the Egbert Auditorium • Baccalaureate is for seniors graduating in May only!! It is an intimate time for seniors, their family, and friends to gather one last time. Seniors may sit with their senior friends. • The program includes music and student speakers. • Everyone is welcome. • Parents and guests should plan to arrive before 6:00 p.m. Senior Breakfast / Graduation Rehearsal • Thursday, May 23, 7:30 a.m., Senior Breakfast is in the cafeteria. The Senior Breakfast is only for graduating Seniors. Parents who wish to help with this event, please turn in the attached form to the principal’s office. If you have any questions, please contact Eva Lange, Senior Class Sponsor @ 731-7103. • Thursday, May 23 rd , 8:30 to 10:00 a.m., Graduation Rehearsal will begin in the practice gym and end on the football field. • Students must have their lockers cleaned and all outstanding fees paid prior to Friday, May 17 th , 2013. Failure to pay fees will result in being restricted from the graduation ceremony. Fees may include books, library dues, athletic uniforms, etc. (See Attached Board Policy JQ). • Graduates will be dismissed at approximately 10:30 a.m. • Students’ diplomas will have his/her official name as it appears on their birth certificate. Graduation • Thursday, May 23 rd , 7:30 p.m. in the stadium. • All guests are welcome. If you need handicapped seating, please contact Carol Gallagher @ 731-7137. Handicapped seating is for a handicapped person, and two other people to assist them. Handicapped parking is available in the administration parking lot. You must show either a handicapped permit or have a handicapped license plate. Handicapped parking will be in the North Lot in front of the Administration building. Handicapped spaces are limited. • The Practice Gym will be opened at 6:15 p.m. Graduates must report to the Practice Gym no later than 7:00 p.m. Once graduates have entered the Practice Gym, they must remain there. ONLY GRADUATES WILL BE ADMITTED INTO THE PRACTICE GYM. Family members, friends and relatives will not be allowed to enter the gym.
• Graduates are to arrive at the Practice Gym in appropriate attire, carrying their cap and gown into the gym. No cell phones, cameras, flowers, corsages, handbags, etc., may be brought into the gym. Sahuaro is not responsible for items lost or confiscated. Graduates understand that they are subject to search for items which may distract from the dignity of the ceremony. • Graduates are to adhere to the dress code policy and wear clothes that are appropriate for Graduation. Dress shoes are requested. Beach sandals, tennis shoes, tube tops, muscle shirts, tank tops or flip-flops are not acceptable. No shorts. Students who do not adhere to the dress code will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony. • School board policy states that there may be no alterations of caps or gowns (Board Policy IKFB). Students who do so are not allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Corsages or other adornments are also inappropriate. • A photographer will be present at graduation. Proofs will be sent to your home if you wish to purchase prints. • Your best photo opportunity will be with your graduate on the field immediately following Graduation. Please do not enter the field until the end of the exercises. • Out of respect for all graduates and family members, please wait until the end of the exercises to approach the field. • Attached you will find a Calendar of Events. Final Thoughts In these closing weeks, please counsel your student to keep their grades and attendance up. With the attendance policy, students will need to be at school. Students who violate the policy will place their graduation in jeopardy. If your student is in violation of the attendance policy with 10 unexcused absences for the semester, they must appeal their grades (Attendance Policy JE). If the student does not appeal their grade for attendance, they will not receive credit. Thus, this may affect the student’s graduation. Attendance Appeals must be submitted by May 3, 2013. In addition, students should avoid disciplinary issues, as a suspension would eliminate a graduate from the graduation ceremony. Make sure any fees or debts are paid, their lockers are cleaned out, and most importantly to make wise decisions that will keep them safe during this time of celebration. Students who violate The Student Rights and Responsibilities may void their privilege to participate in the Graduation Ceremony.
