How to place an announcement:
If you are a Missouri Bar member and you’ve moved, been promoted, hired an associate, taken on a partner, or received a promotion or award, we’d like
to hear from you. Talks, speeches (unless they are of national stature), CLE presentations and political announcements are not accepted. In addition,
Precedent will not print notices of honors determined by other publications (e.g., Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, etc.). Notices are printed at no cost,
must be submitted in writing, and are subject to editing. Items are printed as space is available. News releases regarding lawyers who are not Missouri
Bar members in good standing will not be printed. Contact Cynthia Heerboth at (573) 635-4128 if you have questions.
Photographs:
Professional quality photos submitted with your announcement are also printed at no cost. Attach a label with the subject’s name and address on the
back of the photo (do not write on either side of the photo). Group photos are not accepted. Photos may be sent as e-mail attachments to cheerboth@
mobar.org. Photos should have a resolution of 300 dpi in a .jpg format.

Precedent is published quarterly, in February, May, August and November. The deadline for announcements is the 15th of the month preceding
publication. For example, to place an announcement in the May issue, it must be received by The Missouri Bar by April 15. Send or e-mail your

Association (KCMBA) recognized
its 2010 honorees at the 37th annual
Bench-Bar & Boardroom Conference
held at Lake of the Ozarks. Robert
A. Horn of Horn, Aylward & Bandy,
L.L.C. was presented with the Congenial
Counselor Award for his example
of professional gallantry, peacemaking
and friendship. Jeffrey M. Kuntz, a
partner at Wagstaff & Cartmell, was
honored with the Thomas J. Conway
Award for outstanding trial skills.
The Young Lawyer of the Year
Award was presented to Amanda
“Mandy” Pennington Ketchum of
Dysart, Taylor, Lay, Cotter & Mc-
Monigle, P.C. This award recognizes
excellence in public service, professionalism
and legal accomplishments.

with the Robert C. Welch Volunteer
Attorney Project Award. They received
the award in recognition of devotion

The KCMBA selected John W.
Cowden, a member of Baker, Sterchi,

Smith, a partner at McDowell, Rice,
Smith & Buchanan, P.C., as this year’s
recipients of the Deans of the Trial
Bar Award. John “Jack” C. Craft of

Barons of the Boardroom Award.
The Missouri State Public Defender
System announces that Thomas J.
Porto, formerly with the Columbia
Public Defender’s office, has joined
the Kansas City office.
Springfield Area
The Springfield Metropolitan Bar
Foundation is the recipient of the 2010
National Conference of Bar Foundations
Award for Bar Foundation Excellence
in Public Service Programming.
This award is presented annually to a
bar foundation that demonstrates excellence
and impact to its community
in either its programs or grant-making
awards. The foundation received the
award at the American Bar Association
2010 Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
The Missouri State Public Defender
System announces that Eria A Graf
and Louis J. Nolan have joined the
Springfield office. Ms. Graf was
formerly with the Carthage Public
Defender’s office.
St. Louis Area
Polsinelli Shughart, P.C. announces
that Frederick W. Miller, III has

the affordable housing and tax credit
finance and development practices.
Additionally, labor and employment
attorney Elisa B. Reinsmith has

assistant attorney general for the State
of Missouri, practicing in the litigation

The Mound City Bar Association
has awarded this year’s Legal Service
Award to the Honorable Jimmie M.
Edwards, circuit judge for the 22nd
Judicial Circuit. Judge Edwards has
initiated numerous programs during

his tenure, including the Simon Foundation
Transitions Program that assists
juveniles in obtaining a G.E.D. or high
school diploma, then places the youths
in job settings. Most recently, Judge
Edwards played a part in the opening
of the Innovative Concept Academy,
which specifically addresses the needs
of troubled students.
In addition, Judge Edwards has
been named the 2010 recipient of the
Raymond Pace Alexander Award by
the Judicial Council of the National
Bar Association. The award was presented
to Judge Edwards at the Thurgood
Marshall Awards Luncheon in
New Orleans.
George L. Fitzsimmons,
a St. Louis attorney,
arbitrator and mediator,
has been inducted into the
Academy of Court Appointed
Masters (ACAM).
ACAM is an honorary
organization for lawyers who have
served with distinction as “Special

Grace S. Day has been recognized
by the St. Joseph YWCA as one of

Workplace Award by the organization.
