COMMENCEMENT DAY
SCHEDULE
Graduation, commencement, convocation, diploma
ceremony: What’s the difference
Graduation means completing all the requirements to obtain your
degree.
Commencement is the day when the Case Western Reserve
University community gathers to celebrate your achievement in
graduating. There are a number of university activities that honor
new graduates on commencement day, Sunday, May 20, 2012.
The university-wide convocation is a formal academic ceremony
featuring the presentation of honorary degrees and awards. All
CWRU undergraduates, graduates, and professional-school students
will have their degrees officially conferred at this ceremony.
Attendees will also enjoy a keynote address by Paul Buchheit, CWR
‘98, GRS ‘98, creator of Gmail.
Following the university-wide convocation, there will be a reception
at the Peter B. Lewis Building to honor new Weatherhead graduates
and welcome their families.
Later, Dean Mohan Reddy will present diplomas—certificates for
the degrees that were conferred at convocation—to graduates at
a separate diploma ceremony in Severance Hall for Weatherhead
graduates only.
Please note: If you have an outstanding balance, you may participate
in commencement, but you will need to reconcile your account before
you may pick up your diploma.
