Recoatable : 16 hours
Note: Dependent upon absorption and drying conditions. Certain hardwoods are often rich in natural oils or
extractives that can seriously affect the drying, absorption and adhesion of all finishes. These must be removed
by wiping the surfaces with a cloth dampened with cellulose thinners or equivalent.
12-14 m 2 /litre on smooth surfaces, this will vary depending upon the method of application, timber species,
moisture content, timber cut, and the presence of other coatings.
Resistant to washing and scrubbing. Clean with a mild detergent solution or white spirit to remove dirt and stains.
Timber surface must be thoroughly abraded, clean and dry, with dust, dirt, wax and grease removed. The
moisture content of timber must not exceed 14%. Resinous areas, knots and timbers with a high natural oil (e.g.
teak,) or extractive (e.g. oak, iroko) content, should be thoroughly degreased by wiping with a cloth dampened
with cellulose thinners. Existing varnish or high build stain finishes should be lightly sanded with a fine grade
abrasive paper to provide a suitable key. We do not recommend the use of “knotting agents”, which are not
always fully effective in “sealing in” resin. In addition, the presence of knots is often highlighted, and adhesion of
subsequent coatings can be impaired.
APPLICATION
CONDITIONS
Avoid applying in high relative humidity or when the air/substrate temperatures are below 8˚C or above 30˚C.
APPLICATION
Ensure product is thoroughly stirred before and during application, otherwise colour and sheen variations may be
experienced.
Apply 3 coats of Cetol TS Interior to a wet film loading 60 micrometres per coat, lightly sanding between
coats. Cetol TS Interior should be applied by brush in a full flowing coat and brushed out to ensure even
coverage. Avoid overbrushing, as this will cause brush marks and a poor quality finish. For the best results the
room should be dust free. The depth of colour achieved will be dependent upon the colour of the wood or
existing finish and the number of coats of coloured Cetol TS Interior applied, we therefore strongly recommend
that a trial application is carried out to ensure acceptability. If the required depth of colour is achieved in less
than three coats, complete the full specification with colourless Cetol TS Interior.
Cetol TS Interior is formulated for brush application and is supplied ready for use. However for surfaces that are
particularly porous, apply a first coat of varnish thinned with clean white spirit in the volume ratio of one part
white spirit to 9 parts Cetol TS Interior, followed by 2 coats of unthinned Cetol TS Interior.
Only use non-rusting screws, nails and fixings.
Cleaning
Brushes should be cleaned immediately after use with clean white spirit

MAINTENANCE
Cetol TS Interior treated surfaces may be cleaned by wiping down lightly with a damp cloth and then buffing
with a dry cloth to restore the original sheen. The use of silicone-based or wax polishes is not recommended as
they tend to accumulate dirt and make maintenance re-applications of Cetol TS Interior impossible unless fully
sanded and degreased.
Should maintenance become necessary, the surfaces should be lightly sanded with a fine grade abrasive paper. If
the timber has been stained, avoid sanding back to the underlying stain. Remove all sanding dust and apply one
or two coats of Cetol TS Interior.
COMPATIBILITY
Cetol TS Interior may be applied over most varnishes and woodstains including the following Sikkens products;
Cetol HLS, Cetol THB and Cetol Filter 7. Data sheets are available on all other Sikkens products mentioned.
Compatibility with respect to adhesion and colour should be ensured with a trial application before full treatment
commences. Similar products to those mentioned above will also show good compatibility with Cetol TS
Interior. For further advice on this refer to the manufacturers of such products, or contact us on the number
given at the end of this data sheet.
STORAGE
The can should be resealed after use and stored tightly closed to prevent evaporation and entry of oxygen.
Avoid the inclusion of a greater proportion of air to the liquid product. It should be noted that even if there is a
higher proportion of product to air in the container, once opened the shelf life of the product is unpredictable.
Store in a cool, dry place.
CAN SIZES
Cetol TS Interior is available in 1 litre cans and 2.5 litre cans for most ready mixed colours.
