outstanding first responders from across the region. Now in its fourth year, the Great First
Responder Award program has recognized over 300 First Responder heroes across North Texas.

Highland Park Fire Fighter Wayne Kilmer FF, EMT-P receives a Great Fire Responder Award at a City Council
meeting on August 9 th . L to R: Mayor William Seay, Wayne’s mother Mrs. Lucy Kilmer, son Jack and on the far
right Chris Vinson, Highland Park’s Director of Public Safety. Wayne was cited for saving two children in a flood as
their car was being swept away.
A series of Great First Responder Awards shown in the pictures below were presented
at the Carrollton Fire Department on August 12, 2010. Fire Chief John Murphy is
shown in the first three pictures.

Above Right: A Great First Responder Award was presented to Gail Henderson at Rio Vista VFD on 8/16/10 in
honor of his 38 years of service to the department. Additional Great First Responder Awards were presented at
CareFlite’s annual Emergency Care Update Conference on June 7 th . See the May – June edition of FliteLines for
pictures of those winners. Special thanks to the DFW Hospital Council for co -sponsoring the awards program.

Bright and early on July 15 th … at 7am … CareFlite broke ground for a new Education and Training Facility. The
center is expected to be completed by the end of the year. In addition to the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation, support
for the construction of the center comes from a number of foundations, our Sponsors, Friends of CareFlite and
CareFlite’s employees. The center will include state of the art training facilities for air and ground EMS providers.
