Three challenges, three chances for success
Tri-City Medical Center has identified several critical healthcare needs that face the citizens of Carlsbad, Oceanside,
Vista and our neighboring communities. In 2010, the Foundation board and staff began addressing the challenge
of supporting the following Tri-City Medical Center priorities with enhanced funding:
1 Cancer Institute:
Currently, Tri-City Medical Center provides oncology care to
approximately 5,500 patients each year. By combining state-of-theart
treatment with its mission to care for the whole person, Tri-City
Medical Center provides exceptional care and compassionate
support for patients with cancer and their families. This life
threatening disease has touched every family in our community,
and our commitment to offer the most comprehensive services has
guided our decision to fund the capital expenses of a new Cancer
Institute at Tri-City Medical Center.

2 Orthopedic Institute:
Currently, Tri-City Medical Center’s orthopedics services helps
relieve pain and restore movement for thousands of patients. Pain
can slow down active lifestyles and makes even everyday tasks
seem like work. Tri-City Medical Center’s comprehensive approach
to orthopedics helps patients find relief from joint, back and neck
pain. To become one of the top orthopedic programs in the nation,
Tri-City Medical Center will build an Orthopedic Institute offering
the most progressive medical programs, innovative approaches and
a top medical team of dedicated specialists to provide the highest
quality care for patients of all ages.
3 Cardiovascular Health Institute:
Tri-City Medical Center’s Cardiovascular Health Institute is now open,
bringing a new standard of heart health and wellness to North San
Diego County and the entire region. The Institute offers cutting edge
medicine in a patient-focused model with a new Access Center,
dedicated Care Coordinator and streamlined, well coordinated
patient experience.
At Tri-City Medical Center, an extraordinary cardiac
surgeon, Dr. David Perkowski, is a national leader in
fixing a heart without stopping
it and routing blood flow around
it. He has performed upwards of
1,500 such procedures, keeping
only a small portion of the heart
still while the rest continues to
provide normal circulation. It’s a less invasive procedure
and reduces the risk of stroke, infection, kidney failure
and even death.
This medical pioneer exemplifies the capabilities of
Tri-City Medical Center’s new Cardiovascular Health
Institute, now an important part of our focus on
heart health.
