Introducing
The 3 Jump
Bring both arms
behind your
body slightly
Also called the Waltz Jump, the three
jump has one half rotation in the air.
You begin by skating forwards on one
leg and finish on the other leg skating
backwards. Both your take-off and landing
must be on an outside edge
4As you start to
jump up, bring your
right leg and both
arms forwards at the
same time. Keep your
head up.
point your toes
downwards
Your arms should be
relaxed as you hold
them in to your body
Bring your arms
up and cross
them
SKATE UK is NISA's flagship 'learn to skate' programme designed to ensure beginners to the sport
receive the very best instruction, delivered by fully qualified coaches, in a fun and enjoyable way.
5When you are in the air,
keep both arms across
your body. Stretch
your legs downwards and
keep them apart.
6Before you land on your
right leg, open your
arms very strongly to
help stop the rotation. Take
your left arm forwards.
Take your left leg
forwards just
before you land
John Hamer trains in USA with Tarasova
This summer, current British
Senior Men's Champion John
Hamer spent time in
Simsbury, Connecticut, with
legendary coach Tatiana Tarasova.
"Training with Tatiana was some of
the hardest training I have ever
done! she is a great coach and a
wonderful lady, We worked really
hard on my spins and step
sequences to build up the levels of
difficulty" commented John on his
return.
He also told Ice Link he had been
landing his triple axel in training and
was planning on incorporating it
into his new programmes
John also wanted to say a big thank
you through Ice Link, to Sally
Stapleford, for all her help in
arranging the trip. "It has been
such a help to both myself and
Two years ago, Ice Link brought you a series of
features for the complete beginner. We continue our
series of 'Technical Tips' and introduce more
advanced techniques for the improving SKATE UK
'The Young Ice Skater'
by Peter Morrissey
Bring your left arm
slightly in front to
stop your body
rotating too much
7You should be on
your right leg on
an outside edge
when you land. Your
left leg should be
behind you and your
left arm is slightly in
front. Bend your
landing leg strongly and
hold the landing
position for as long as
possible.
