OpenAir Tours proudly enters its eighth year of topless touring in 2013. The OpenAir Classic was officially
“road-ready” in January of 2006 after Wisconsin Convertible Classic ended. Gary and Mae Knowles of Madison,
and fellow enthusiasts Mike and Donna Peroutka of Green Bay joined forces to keep the spirit of Open-Air
Touring alive. Another long-time veteran of the WCC working with the team is Greg Nametz of Madison. The
team selects destinations & hotels, sets routes, directs the tours and oversees promotions & operations. We’re
honored to share the road and this exhilarating adventure with you. We’ll work diligently to ensure that you have
a pleasant and memorable tour.
UNLEASH THE KID WHO BOUGHT YOUR CONVERTIBLE!
This is what convertibles are all about. Fun in the Sun. Remember what you were thinking when you bought your ragtop
The coolest ride in town. Endless summer. Warm drives, blue sky, fresh air, miles of smiles, radio cranked up, surf city,
fun-fun-fun. This is a lifestyle that also happens to be transportation. Let’s Drive!
RUN TOPLESS! DISCOVER THE BEST DAYS OF THE SUMMER
The OAC is an annual four-day tour for people who love topless cars. We carry on open-air auto-tour traditions that
began in 1993. Our roots go back to pioneer ancestors who couldn’t wait to see what was over the next hill. OAC is a
non-competitive back-roads tour for any open-air automobile, any make, any vintage. We limit our tour to about 200
convertibles (sorry, no T-Tops) with about 400 people. We drive open-air cars ranging from 1930s to Post-War beauties,
50s,60s and 70s gems, British classics, muscle cars, exotics and showroom-fresh drop tops. OAC features spectacular
routes, friendly towns, interesting attractions, great entertainment and good-time parties. The love of exploration, fresh
air and fun is in our DNA! We’d be proud to travel with you!
LIVE THE GOOD LIFE WITH THE NICEST PEOPLE ON EARTH!
Convertible people have a zest for life that will never be topped! Members come from the Midwest and all over the USA. Some
belong to car clubs but many never toured before joining OAC. Word has spread – Once you do a tour, you’ll be back for more!
The fun starts here – so join us!
DISCOVER EXHILARATING BACK ROADS!
Good-bye rat race! We drive the back roads, by-ways and rustic roads. We visit those great little “off the beaten path”
places others wish they could find. OAC provides clear and easy to follow routes and maps. You’ll know where we’re
going. We’re very careful to keep you and your “baby” (i.e. car) on good paved roads. We try to avoid road construction.
While changes can occur without notice, we do our best to “stay smooth”. OAC tours are cruises, not rallies or races.
GET MORE FUN PER GALLON!
We love the earth, big blue sky and fresh air. There’s no better way to experience it than top-down. OAC tours deliver more value,
fun and thrills per gallon. Drive the back roads at a pace where you’ll fully appreciate this wonderful world, responsibly, with
good friends
ENJOY FINE HOTELS, DINING, ENTERTAINMENT, SHOPPING WITH OAC!
Tours allow some free time for diversions, attractions and shopping. We’ll have area guides and recommendations for
“don’t miss it” dining and touring. When the tour is over you can truly say, “Been there. Loved it. Can’t wait to get back!”
ENSURE YOUR SPOT ON THE GRID – BECOME AN OAC MEMBER!!
RUNNING BLUFFS AND CRUISING COULEES ALONG THE MIGHTY MISS! OPENAIR CLASSIC VIII
AUGUST 15-18, 2013
FOUR TOPLESS DAYS EXPLORING AMERICA’S GREATEST RIVER ROADS!
Welcome to the land of wows and ahhhs! Lace up your driving gloves. Drop your top. Prepare to be thrilled as you drive some of the most scenic hill-country
back roads and jaw-dropping beautiful river country in America. The roads are twisty and the air is fresh, pure and sweet. In this country even the nooks and
crannies have nooks and crannies! We’ll be headquartered in the vibrant and friendly community of Onalaska, Wisconsin, perfectly positioned to explore miles
of Great River Road, Grand Coulee Country, Tri-State Bluffs, and the Highways of the Verdant Hidden Valleys. Onalaska, just north of La Crosse was home
to some of the earliest Native American settlements in the Upper Great Lakes. It played an important role as a booming logging town in the 1800s American
frontier. Today it welcomes us to spectacular landscapes and majestic miles of the mighty Mississippi. Welcome to the OpenAir Classic VIII!
THURSDAY – AUGUST 15 Welcome to the Bluff Runners Buffet and Navigator’s Oath Ceremony
Cruise in to Onalaska, OAC’s Headquarter City 2013. Whether this is your first tour or 20th, you’ll find a warm welcome and lots of smiles greeting you at Stoney
Creek Lodge. At OAC Registration Center, pick-up your Welcome Kit, credentials, Ts and car number. Say hello to OAC Crew and meet the nicest car people
on the planet. Take a look at area guides, study maps, catch a cool beverage and shoot the breeze with your OpenAir buddies. Slip into your official OAC wear
and strike a pose. There may be media on hand and you’ll want to look great in print or on-screen! This outstanding Great River Country is rich with history,
culture and tradition so we’ll dive deep into the hills to experience it as its finest. If you’re itching for a little warm-up drive, we’ll have suggestions. Tonight
we’ll get up at about 6:30PM with a sumptuous “Bluff Runners Buffet” specially prepared for us by talented Hill Country Chefs. After dinner it’s the Jump Start
Ceremonies, Driver’s Meeting and solemn Navigator’s Oath. Enjoy the evening. Catch up with old and new touring enthusiasts then get a good night’s rest.
You’ll want to be alert and cheerful as you head for the hills on this exhilarating adventure!
FRIDAY, AUGUST 16 Drive to the Hills, Hit the Track, Run for the River!
Rise and shine as we get ready for an eye-popping tour! Grab breakfast early or catch a coffee or sweet roll at the OAC Starting Grid at the Onalaska American
Legion Headquarters just a short drive from Stoney Creek and all official hotels. We’ll wipe the morning dew off the chrome, double check the navigator’s pulse
and maybe kick the tires as we and fire up the cruisers and advance the spark just a bit. We’ll pass out tour instructions with checkpoints noted, review last
minute instructions, sing the National Anthem, drop tops and wait for the starter’s flag to begin this great adventure. Today’s drive takes us to the green
hillsides of the Hidden Valleys, LaCrosse Speedway -Wisconsin’s only sanctioned weekly asphalt race track, a run along the sparkling waters of the Mississippi,
stunning scenic views and even a crossing into Iowa! There’ll be charming little towns, local goods and produce, friendly shops, barges, wildlife, garage
sales and raptors high overhead. Practice your putting because today you’ll have a chance to sink a couple of putts and strut into the finals playing for “the
big purse.” We’ll motor the twisting highways, explore off-the-beaten-path delights, wave at kids and maybe moo at some cows. Play the “Who’s Coolest in
the Coulees” game and earn tickets good for prize drawings on Sunday. Motor back through the hills to Onalaska area for dinner on your own or join touring
friends. (Check the OAC Dining Guide for recommendations.) Drop in at the Onalaska Legion Hall tonight to hear one of the area’s top bands and toast the
breezy life on America’s Greatest Undiscovered Byway (which you have now officially “discovered”!)
SATURDAY – AUGUST 17 Seeking Adam & Eve, Cross Country to the first Minnesota Concours!
Today we begin with an Onalaska Griddlecake Breakfast (you’ll be assigned a dining time) prepared by the Friends of Onalaska American Legion at the Legion
Headquarters Building. We’ll have a short Tour Briefing and distribute the day’s routes. As in past years, we’ll have a OAC Modified LeMans Start. Study your
route maps and get tour tips, pick up extra “Wanna Bite My Apple” game cards and get best wishes from your OAC Crew. Then drop the top, hit the road, soak
up some rays and pack in the fun! We’ll be headed north and west today giving our favorite topless carriages, spyders, roadsters and sun-chasers the Coulee
Country tour equivalent of a hot yoga session. Make sure your navigator gets lots of sleep Friday night because they’ll want to be wide-awake to keep you oncourse
and find the checkpoints for this wheel bender. On today’s route we’ll look for the Garden of Eden (this is where “topless” first came into vogue!) Sip
some wine, watch for eagles, avoid road varmints, discover one of Wisconsin’s great pubs, see a Twentieth Century Highway Wonder and cross the Mississippi
to visit Minnesota. In Winona we’ll find a Museum whose maritime art collection is one of America’s best, see some fine architecture and gather for the OAC
Great River Topless Concourse. Vote for your favorite cars, watch the exciting finals of the OAC Putting Championship, and compare back roads tales with your
friends of the byway. Later, dine with a group of breezy buddies at , LaCrosse or Onalaska – or find a quiet spot of your own. Tonight catch racing action at
LaCrosse Speedway (special OAC discount), explore bistros and night-life, hear live music or just enjoy some time at the pool at your hotel.
SUNDAY – AUGUST 18 The Topless Finale’! Cheers, Awards, Prizes and (Sweet)Parting!!
Catch a little extra pillow time or wake early and take a short cruise through the area (check the OAC “Extra” Route.) Whatever you do, don’t be late for the
Never-Topped big Sunday Finale’! Today we toast our OAC Concourse Favorites, celebrate 21 great years on the road, have the popular “Bucket Drawings,”
Referral Prize, Putting Awards, Game Prizes, Grand Prize Drawing, and the (hard to believe it went so fast!) fond farewells. We’ll wrap up around Noon. You
may want to explore more of the area so get out your Onalaska and LaCrosse Guides. Most hotels offer OAC special rates for a Sunday Stay if you want another
day. Many folks drop top and meander home. Mark your calendars for 2014 OpenAir Conditioner at the Concourse Hotel & Governor’s Club (late January–date
TBA) where we’ll reveal the destination and hotels for OAC IX. Remember, time flies when you’re topless! OpenAir Classic IX, August 21-24, 2014!
