Highlights of the Year 2005-2007<br />
In the years 2005-2007, the activities of the Unit spanned the following areas:<br />
<strong>Medical</strong> education<br />
Faculty Development<br />
Several teacher training workshops were conducted to update our teachers in educational and<br />
assessment methods. Many of these workshops were conducted by internationally renowned faculty<br />
in medical education. The workshops were:<br />

- CHPE (Certificate course in Health Professions Education). A 3-day course held in April 2005 and<br />
February 2007. Around 90 College, Hospital, affiliated staff and other health professional participated<br />
in the course.<br />
- Student Assessment Workshop. A 3-day workshop held in April 2005 and February 2007. Around 45<br />
College, Hospital, and affiliated staff participated.<br />
- IDEAL Train the Trainer Assessment Workshop. A 3-day workshop held in January 2006. Around<br />
100 College, Hospital, affiliated staff attended.<br />
- Assessment workshop for affiliated staff. One-day workshop held in April 2007. Around 22 affiliated<br />
staff from Al-Nahdha, Khoula, and Royal Hospitals attended.<br />
- IDEAL Item Analysis Workshop: One-day workshop held in May 2007. College staff attended.<br />
- Use of IDEAL Databank workshops. Two half-day workshops held in October and November 2007.<br />
Departmental IDEAL representatives attended.<br />
Assessment<br />
The Unit has established the IDEAL (International Databank for Enhancement of Assessment<br />
and Learning) office which houses the IDEAL secure assessment databank, liaises with the IDEAL<br />
Consortium office in Hong Kong, and offers the service of item analysis. During the past 3 years, the<br />
College has contributed over 500 validated exam questions to the Consortium.<br />
<strong>Medical</strong> Informatics<br />
The <strong>Medical</strong> Informatics Group is a very active and productive group within the <strong>Medical</strong> Education<br />
Unit. It is concerned with the application of information and communication technology to medical<br />
education and research. It provides training and research to assess, develop, and implement<br />
technologies that support medical faculties, health care professionals and biomedical scientists. The<br />
main goals of <strong>Medical</strong> Informatics group are:<br />
- To strengthen the integration of medical informatics technologies in the area of medical teaching,
