Registration
Registration Eligibility
Every effort is made by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) to ensure that registration material is
only sent to students who are eligible to register. However, receiving it does not override any other
notification you received about your academic status and eligibility.
You can register if you are a:
New Student who has contacted your home graduate unit to clear the outstanding conditions
indicated on your Offer of Admission letter
Continuing Student who is within the time limit for your degree program
Student with no outstanding U of T tuition fees
You are considered registered as soon as you have paid tuition and incidental fees or have requested to
register without payment (i.e. fee deferral). For information on registering without payment (i.e. fee
deferral), visit the Graduate Fees section of the SGS website.
Late Registration
If you register after the final date to register, you will be required to show proof of payment and
register at SGS. A late registration fee of $44 plus $5 per additional day to a maximum of $94 will be
charged. The following are the final dates for registration for students starting in the fall, winter or
summer sessions of 2012-13:
Fall Starters – September 14, 2012
Winter Starters – January 11, 2013
Summer Starters – May 3, 2013
Registration must be completed by the final date for registration so you do not lose credit for full-time
attendance for income-tax purposes by Revenue Canada (T2202A).
After the final date for registration, enrolment in and access to courses through the Student Web
Service (ROSI) will be cancelled for students who are not registered.
Register without Payment (Fee Deferral)
You may request to register without payment (i.e. make a fee deferral) through the Student Web
Service (ROSI) if you have no outstanding fees from a previous session and are the recipient of one of
the following which exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your Student Web Service
(ROSI) invoice:

OSAP loan
Other provincial government loan
US government loan
University funding package (major award, research stipend or teaching stipend)
The Register Without Payment (Fee Deferral) form must be used if you are receiving a major award,
research stipend or teaching assistantship that is not part of a funding package or if you are registering
after the deadline. If you are receiving a major award, research stipend or teaching assistantship that is
not part of a funding package, the form is submitted to your graduate unit. If you are registering late,
you must come to the SGS Student Services office in person and request to register without payment
(i.e. make a fee deferral). Late registration fees will be assessed.
Service Charges
If not paid in full, any outstanding account balance is subject to a monthly service charge of 1.5%
compounded monthly (19.56% per annum). For more information about service charges, visit the
Student Accounts website.
When you request to register without payment, your fees are still considered outstanding and owing to
SGS. Please review the following information about service charges in regards to OSAP and other
sources of funding.
OSAP or other provincial loans - for requests to register without payment made on the basis of OSAP
or other provincial loans, service charges begin to accrue as follows:
thereafter until fees are paid in full.
