of our parish. We applaud your hard

contributions to our parish community and

GROWING IN WISDOM, FAITH AND COMMUNITY
We are grateful for the many gifts of this year's high school seniors. Our community has helped nurture these young adults, and we
are blessed by the sharing of their gifts and lives. Many are altar servers, usher and/or are involved in LIFE TEEN. Shelbi Carpenter
and Diane McElroy proclaim the Word; Elizabeth Strunk and Amber Munk cantor, and several were accompanists at Mass: Adam
Clark (guitar), Darren Dawdy (piano), Caela McNickle (cellist) and Aaron Williams (guitar). Cody Blevins went through RCIA
this year, and Derek Piskorski did so in 2009.

Different gifts, different paths, but one Spirit of love

This year’s seniors
have been recognized
for their spiritual, academic
and athletic gifts
and for developing and
sharing those gifts.
Aaron Williams and
Caela McNickle received
the Light of Christ award
at the Diocesan Catholic
Youth Conference for actively
participating in
parish, docesan and regional
youth ministry all
four years of high
school. Adam Clark and
Diane McElroy were
named Outstanding
Catholic Youth.
Amber Stegman,
Darren Dawdy and cousins
Ryan Fisher and Brian
Gessler received Medallions
of Knowledge for
being in the top 5% of
their class at Derby High
School. Darren, Ryan
and Brian also received
academic letters and
were Kansas ACT Scholars.
Darren was named a
Governor's Scholar for
being one of the top 5
students at Derby High
School, Army Reserve
National Scholar/Athlete
and DHS
Outstanding Male Senior
in Mathematics. WSU
awarded him academic
scholarships.
Ryan's academic
scholarships included
WSU's Wallace Scholarship
and a Project Lead
the Way scholarship.
Brian Gessler received
the Woodmen of the
World Award and KU
academic scholarships.

were Kansas Honor
Scholars and received
President’s Awards for
Educational Excellence.
Kaitlan Kleman was
named a Kansas Honor
Scholar.Elizabeth Strunk
received the President's
Award for Educational
Excellence.

Rose Hill senior Monica Blake and other members
of the Class of 2010 were confirmed by
Bishop Jackels in April 2008.
At the Senior Recognition Dinner this past Sunday, seniors and their parents celebrated the seniors' impending graduation. Pictured from

Three students received
fine arts awards
or scholarships: Brylee
(dance and music theatre),
Hannah Sattler
(Academic Achievement
Award-Ceramics)
and Caleb Walker (art).
Caela McNickle received
a presidential
scholarship from Butler.
Monica Blake has
been accepted into the
Eric Fisher Academy,
and plans to design and
open her own chain of
hair salons in the future.
Neil Metler, who has
had numerous first place
finishes and a very successful
career in cross
country and track at
Derby High School, has
signed a national letter
of intent to run for
WSU.
Brenna and Kaitlan
signed to play soccer for
Hutchinson. The twins
shared their vocal talents
with Parish School
of Religion students
weekly, helping them
learn songs that we sing
at Mass.
In various parish ministries,
helping teach our
faith to younger students
and to their peers, many
of these teens have
touched the lives of others
through their
inspiring Christian love
and service.
