Issue 7
15 March 2012
Principal’s Greetings
The Book Fair is up and running in the library. Classes have been going through the
library and students have prepared "wish lists". The Book Fair is a great fundraiser for our
school and a fantastic opportunity for us to get our hands on some high quality
children's literature.
Tuesday afternoon we had a fire alarm. This was not a drill, however it did turn out to be the
result of a fault in the system. The fault has been isolated and will be rectified as soon as
possible. I would like to commend the staff and students for the calm manner in which they
moved though the fire drill procedure. Everyone was accounted for very efficiently, even the fire
men were impressed.
We have received news that the irrigation system on the oval is to be completely
upgraded. The old water cannons have given 30 years of service but increasingly have begun to
break down. School council identified this issue last year and sought quotes for the work. The
works were significant as would the cost have been. Through an application to DET NT
Infrastructure we have been successful in having the project managed and funded externally
through the Minor New Works Program. This means our oval won't go brown in the dry season
and represents a significant saving for council.
Have a great Weekend
Last year Nhulunbuy Primary School
nominated to participate in an Early
Childhood pilot and we have been successful.
This means our Transition teachers along
with six other schools in the Territory will be
supported to work with both the Australian
Curriculum and the Early years Learning
Framework. Great work!!!!
