To achieve this we will work with the community to: Provide services in East and North King County to people, primarily women and children, who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse; Prevent domestic violence through advocacy, education and support. “We are in a better position to greet the second half of this decade with the hope of educating more people about the root causes of domestic violence and about healthier ways to be in relationships with our loved ones. ” Dear Friends, Thank you for your dedicated partnership with Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP)! Because of you, we were able to provide crisis intervention and supportive services to thousands of victims of domestic violence during 2004. Because of you, we were able to educate thousands of community members about domestic violence during 2004. Because of you, we were able to touch the lives of many and to bring new hope. We had several successes during the year that merit special mention. As a result of an improving economy and the wonderful support from our community, EDVP ended the year in a much stronger fi nancial position with a $77,535 surplus including depreciation. This puts the agency in a better position to greet the second half of this decade with the hope of educating more people about the root causes of domestic violence and about healthier ways to be in relationships with our loved ones. As a result of feedback from our program participants and from the community, we were also able to make some improvements in our services. Our emergency shelter staff moved My Sister’s Home to scattered-site apartments. This change enables families to have more privacy and more autonomy as they deal with the crises in their lives. Staff on site continues to provide food and household necessities as well as daily advocacy-based counseling, children’s services and peer support groups. Residents gather together when they choose and not because they have to. This move enabled us to double our capacity at My Friend’s Place, our transitional housing program, from fi ve to ten families. With this expansion we are able to provide more chemically-dependent survivors of domestic violence with housing while they receive out-patient treatment and domestic violence services. In our community-based programs, we added Spanish and Japanese crisis line shifts and advocacy sessions to our services. EDVP staff began an educational group called “Hope and Power” at our local Community Services Offi ce (CSO). Our children’s advocates successfully brought Peace Pals, education for children, to Hopelink’s transitional housing program providing positive relationship-building skills for children who may have witnessed domestic violence. The most important success of 2004 was the development of a new strategic plan that sets goals for EDVP for the next three to fi ve years. The four primary objectives of the plan are to: Increase EDVP revenues; Improve EDVP’s internal processes; Improve EDVP’s service offerings; and Enhance EDVP’s public image. With your continuing support we will work toward internal and external goals to strengthen EDVP. Again, we thank you.
