Senior Ophthalmologist
Advocates Continuing Education
During the past two decades the urgent need for
organized ophthalmology to support the advocacy
of medical eye care on the state and federal levels
has used funds that might otherwise have been
earmarked for continuing education, which for
years has been the primary mission of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology. Advocacy has become a personal obligation of
every ophthalmologist concerned about the socio-economic and
political realities that face us.
To ensure that ophthalmologists can continue to provide patients
access to the highest quality of eye care, the Academy has sought
a method to better fulfill its educational mission. The Academy
Education Fund is intended to raise philanthropic support in order
to advance ophthalmic education.
The AAO must remain the most trusted, credible and relevant
source of ophthalmic knowledge for its members. Our generation
of senior ophthalmologists must help ensure that the present and
the future generations of Eye MD’s will continue to represent the
excellence for which the finest specialty in medicine is well known.

OPHTHALMIC EDUCATION
Ophthalmic Education supports the
development of current and clinically
relevant educational materials such as
specialty clinical updates, Basic Clinical
Science Courses (BCSC’s) and an easy-touse,
ophthalmic knowledge base created
by the Academy. Through this support, eye
care doctors and professionals worldwide
can obtain the educational resources
necessary to improve eye care.
THE ACADEMY EDUCATION FUND
Knowledge of medical advances is a
crucial component in providing patients
with quality eye care. The Academy
Education Fund supports research and
development that expedites the transfer
of critical ophthalmic knowledge
and development of easy-to-use,
educational products and services for
ophthalmologists.
