<strong>the</strong> tail end of 2007 when <strong>the</strong> 1 st Defendant unilaterally sought to resc<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong><br />

agreement and commenced his agitation for <strong>the</strong> application of <strong>the</strong> Historical Titles<br />

Method contrary to <strong>the</strong> Supreme Court decision and Article 15 of UNCLOS, 1982<br />

aforesaid.<br />

It is not <strong>in</strong> dispute was reduced <strong>in</strong>to writ<strong>in</strong>g and dated 31st October 2006, It is<br />

exhibit AMBI. It is <strong>in</strong>deed embodied <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> letter written by <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>n President of <strong>the</strong><br />

Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo. The letters reads:<br />

"You will recall that I presided over a meet<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> above subject Friday,<br />

27 th October, 2006 at <strong>the</strong> Presidential Villa with Governors of Akwa Ibom and<br />

Rivers States present among o<strong>the</strong>r stakeholders.<br />

You will recall that <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> course of <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g which was to f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g a last<strong>in</strong>g<br />

solution to <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>ger<strong>in</strong>g problems over <strong>the</strong> oil wells between <strong>the</strong> three <strong>state</strong>s<br />

concerned i.e, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers, three options were<br />

considered viz: Technical Solution, Historical Solution and Political Solution.<br />

After exhaustive deliberations, <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g opted for and upheld <strong>the</strong> political<br />

solution <strong>in</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e with <strong>the</strong> earlier advice given by <strong>the</strong> Attorney-General of <strong>the</strong><br />

Federation and M<strong>in</strong>ister of Justice. Subsequently, a consensus was reached<br />

and <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g agreed on <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g shar<strong>in</strong>g formula for <strong>the</strong> affected oil<br />

well with effect 1 st November, 2006.<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>gly, <strong>the</strong> purpose of this letter is to formally convey <strong>the</strong> decision<br />

reached at <strong>the</strong> meet<strong>in</strong>g which has brought <strong>the</strong> matter to a f<strong>in</strong>al end for
