In addition, we have a number of staff members who are undertaking<br />

studies in the following areas, including those who have been granted<br />

sponsorship through the Catholic Education Office Melbourne:<br />

‣ Doctorate Studies in Education: 2 (2%) staff members;<br />

‣ Masters Studies in Education, Leadership and Teaching: 7<br />

(8%) staff members<br />

2.4 Expenditure and Participation in Professional Learning<br />

At <strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>College</strong>, we value the ongoing skills and knowledge<br />

development of all members of our learning community. All staff<br />

members were involved in a wide range of professional learning<br />

activities including personal professional development, health and<br />

wellbeing, working in year level and vertical pastoral care teams, within<br />

their curriculum areas or faculty groups, as well as attending whole<br />

staff professional learning.<br />

During 2010, six school days were dedicated to professional learning<br />

which specifically related to various aspects of the <strong>College</strong>’s Strategic<br />

Plan. Of special significance in our 30 th year was the In the Footsteps<br />

of Ignatius Staff Pilgrimage to Sevenhill, South Australia visiting<br />

places of significance to the first Jesuits who arrived in Australia at<br />

Sevenhill and to St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop who was based at<br />

both Norwood and Sevenhill at different times of her life. Our 126<br />

teachers and educational support staff have undertaken professional<br />

learning activities beyond the <strong>College</strong> for a total of 560 days. When all<br />

expenses are calculated, the average expenditure per teacher and<br />

educational support staff member was $1136 in addition to the<br />

school~based professional learning activities.<br />

A number of staff members also participated in individual self-funded<br />

or Catholic Education Office Melbourne sponsored study programs.<br />

Section Three: Key Student Outcomes<br />

3.1 Student Attendance<br />

Throughout the 2010 school year <strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>College</strong> carefully monitored<br />

student attendance and punctuality for its 1096 students and provided<br />

term by term advice to parents via school reports. There were a total of<br />

73 students absent per day, averaging 10 days per student for the year.<br />

This equates to a daily student attendance rate of 93%.<br />

3.2 Proportion of students meeting the National Minimum Standard<br />

In 2010 our Years 7 and 9 students were assessed by the National<br />

Assessment Program ~ Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The<br />

following tables indicate the percentage of our students who were at or<br />

above the National Minimum Standard over the past three years and a<br />

comparison of results of the 2009 and 2010 NAPLAN performance.<br />
