Tumwater, known as the end of the Oregon Trail, is the oldest permanent settlement on Puget Sound. The city was<br />

named in 1863 as Tumwater the Chinook’s jargon word for “waterfall”. The City’s early growth and development<br />

was greatly influenced by the close proximity to the power generating falls of the Deschutes River and nearby easy<br />

access to saltwater for transportation and the abundance of timber and fishing. In the late 1800’s Tumwater became<br />

the home of the famous Olympia Brewing Company with the well known slogan on its label, “It’s the Water”.<br />

Market Overview<br />

Tumwater is the third largest city in Thurston County with the official population of 16,333 covering eleven square<br />

miles. Positioned along the I-5 corridor, Tumwater is a sub-market of Olympia, the state capital of Washington.<br />

With the states booming growth in the past ten years state government has also blossomed. Many of the state<br />

agencies have located their offices in Tumwater along Capitol Road and nearby Olympia Airport. To support this<br />
