Product Profile
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator is a system which is designed to detect breathing
and movement sub-surface and locate victims trapped as a result of catastrophes.
The UWB GPR (Ultra Wide Band Ground Penetrating Radar) transmitter will penetrate the
search area by generating continuous electromagnetic signals. The unit receives the reflected
signals continuously and uses a series of sophisticated algorithms to process the data received.
All constant images, which indicate no change in data, are eliminated as these represent no
indication of human life. However, if there is any change in the data from the target area, then
this indicates movement and is immediately highlighted and alarms as a possible life.
This is detailed on the rescuer’s control unit LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator can detect
movement as small as someone breathing below up to 10 metres of rubble. Breathing rates vary
vastly, from around one breath per two seconds (in panic situations) to one breath in ten
seconds (such as when unconscious), Therefore, each target zone is scanned thousands of
times over a pre-determined period of between 15 to 180 seconds. The parameters can be
determined by the user depending on the environmental conditions to ensure best chance of
finding any signs of life.
Applications
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator can be configured to work in air, soil, rubble or
snow. The display can be adjusted to focus on specific depths from 2m to 30m. This helps
rescue teams identify search depths when prior knowledge of possible locations has been
determined.
Because it is self-contained and portable, it allows easy mapping techniques to be used and
aids traversing across dangerous structures
When disaster strikes and people are buried alive, time is critical ! The LEADER SEARCH
Radar Life Locator is designed for rapid deployment by Search & Rescue teams.
The simple control menu provides multiple language support.
The system offers a 'Professional Mode' for advanced Search Applications or a 'Basic Mode'
By using a PC tablet, it allows data to be stored and date stamped if needed.
Also simple access allows data recording replay for quick analysis, if required
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator interrogates the sub-surface for movement while
an operator monitors the progress from a remote computer. Status indicators exhibit any
observed movement. A human life indicator is displayed if breathing patterns are detected. The
human life indicator helps discriminate whether motions are from buried victims or other sources
of subsurface movement.
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator uses innovative ground penetrating radar (GPR)
technology. The GPR sensor communicates via wireless link to the operator's remote computer.
The unit is totally self-contained and will run up to 8 hours with the replaceable, rechargeable
battery.
The remote computer automatically detects the LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator sensor
and continuously displays its results. The range to a moving target updates dynamically. A
pulsing red circle superimposed on the range highlights the life detected. Intuitive symbols and
choice of language deliver easy-to-use operation.
Parameters are saved so investigations with the same settings will continue the next time
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator is powered up. Once a standard procedure is adopted,
the user can simply start LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator and monitor the output.

LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES
Motion detection can be made for objects up to 20-30 m. This is dictated by and dependent on
the environment in which the motion occurs. Some materials are impenetrable by ALL radio wave
signals so depth of detection is determined by the environment. The LEADER SEARCH Radar
Life Locator system is quite capable of meeting or exceeding this 10 m detection when normally
demonstrated through a concrete wall.
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator can detect life activities which are normally associated with
breathing and/or related regular motions and activities.
The detection range can be up to 10 m.
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator system will penetrate an inverted cone shape of
ground, at a 45 degree angle to the surface. This is the primary zone for detection, but the
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator will see invariably at broader angles in many situations.
The detection volume assumes that the penetration into the material is adequate to get outside
the 10 m range. If so, the LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator will see in excess of 120 cubic
metres.
In addition, the LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator has a range of detection cycles. In order to
understand the nature of motion detection in a rescue situation it is important to know that there
will be some false alarms or times when the victim is not creating motion. LEADER SEARCH
Radar Life Locator uses a statistical approach to assessing repeatability and reliability of an
indication. As a result, cycle time can be adjusted from 15 seconds through to 180 seconds i.e. 3
minutes, depending on the mode of operation.
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator range for Wi-Fi :
Normal operation has been achieved to a distance in excess of 50 m.
Note: Wireless range is also dependent on the ambient conditions in the area. Extraneous
interference from other Wi-Fi devices etc. may limit range but normally LEADER SEARCH Radar
Life Locator is immune to even the most dense of operation. Concurrent operation of numerous
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator devices in close proximity has not degraded range
performance.
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator unit is utilized to be used, stored and transported in
the same case. The total maximum weight is only 12.9kg which includes battery chargers, and
PC tablet all stored with in the case.
In use, the sensors working weight is only 7.9 kg
20.85" x 12.73" x 12.75"
(52.9 x 32.3 x 32.4 cm)
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator has a battery life of up to 8 hours.
LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator uses a led acid gel cell battery. This 12V battery pack is
replaceable and is very common and not a custom unit. It is charged whilst in the unit : no
particular requirement for additional charging stations. This makes the battery very flexible for
routine maintenance and support in difficult circumstances.
