Hospital and Medical Research Centre,
Belgaum. This 1500 bed modern
hospital envisioned by Shri. Prabhakar
B. Kore, set on an 18 acre plot also
offers 820 beds free of cost to the
needy. The hospital provides the
services of more than 200 consultant
doctors, skilled nurses, technical and
paramedical staff. The state-of-the-art
infrastructure includes 20 operation
theatres and wide range of specialty
and super-specialty features. The
unique aspect of this establishment is
that all these facilities are offered free
of charge to the poorer sections of
society, thereby dispelling the
common belief that large, modern
hospitals are only for the affluent.
The KLES Hospital & Medical Research
Centre has achieved many distinctions
in cardiac and organ transplants. The
U.S. based ‘Smile Train Project’ enables
children with harelip and other dental
deformities to benefit from palate
surgery. The track record indicates
that in this endeavour, the KLE Society
ranks 3rd, worldwide.
Another department known for its pathbreaking
work is the Department of
Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology
that provides services to patients
suffering from AIDS, auto-immune
disorders of joints etc. It is supported by
an auto–antibody lab that is unique in the
region.
Recognizing research as a critical element
of healthcare studies, the hospital
provides clinical facilities to the students
of the JNMC that is situated on campus,
which offers under-graduation, postgraduation
and post-doctoral superspecialty
courses. The ‘Advanced Medical
Sciences and Research & Development’
cell regulates student research and

library with on-line access to journals,
