Applications are sought for this established post, providing a general adult psychiatry service to a portion of East Dunbartonshire<br />
Community Health Partnership in the Strathkelvin area of north <strong>Glasgow</strong>, Lenzie <strong>and</strong> Kirkintilloch - a mixture of urban <strong>and</strong> rural<br />
areas. The service manages community work around Larkfield Centre in Lenzie <strong>and</strong> has inpatients in Mackinnon House at<br />
Stobhill hospital in Bishopbriggs. Post holders should have a CCT in general adult psychiatry <strong>and</strong> have completed training under<br />
section 22 of the Scottish Mental Health Act to allow them to be listed as approved medical practitioners of the Board. On call is<br />
around 1 in 28 <strong>and</strong> is not onerous. The work is interesting <strong>and</strong> challenging <strong>and</strong> you would be working with a colleague<br />
consultant <strong>and</strong> a full multidisciplinary team. The Northeast Mental Health Directorate provides services for a population of<br />
around 350,000 people residing between the River Kelvin to the West, the River <strong>Clyde</strong> to the South <strong>and</strong> the Campsie Hills to the<br />
North. Services are provided for 6 community resource centres <strong>and</strong> 2 principle inpatient sites. North inpatients are located in<br />
MacKinnon House within new purpose built accommodation on the Stobhill General Site with 20 bedded locality wards <strong>and</strong> a 6<br />
bedded IPCU. East inpatients are currently based at Parkhead Hospital but are due to be relocated adjacent to MacKinnon<br />
House at Stobhill. Community services are well developed <strong>and</strong> CMHTs are well staffed with good links with GP <strong>and</strong> voluntary<br />
sector. There is an active programme of undergraduate, postgraduate educational <strong>and</strong> multi-disciplinary clinical governance<br />
meetings along with consultant CPD <strong>and</strong> managerial meetings. There is an active research programme with a generous study<br />
leave budget <strong>and</strong> staff are encouraged to keep their practice up to date. There has been recent major investment at Board<br />
level in mental health with the development of crisis services, early intervention <strong>and</strong> assertive outreach. General Adult Services<br />

The successful c<strong>and</strong>idate will provide consultant leadership for a multidisciplinary forensic community learning disability team<br />
<strong>and</strong> will be expected to assess patients <strong>and</strong> provide liaison with local learning disability services. This post has resulted from a<br />
reconfiguration of existing consultant psychiatrist provision <strong>and</strong> will initially involve developing a service which links into<br />
established forensic <strong>and</strong> learning disability community services. The post will be open to those with either forensic or learning<br />
disability CCT's <strong>and</strong> comprises of 10 Programmed Activities. The successful c<strong>and</strong>idate would work predominantly with an<br />
outpatient caseload of about 30 patients across the health board area. He or she will lead a multidisciplinary team <strong>and</strong> will be<br />
expected to assess patients for suitability for specialist intervention. Joint working <strong>and</strong> liaison with community learning disability<br />
teams <strong>and</strong> services across the patch is an essential component to this post <strong>and</strong> it is anticipated that much of the work will involve<br />
shared care in this regard. On call responsibilities will be shared with other consultant forensic psychiatrist colleagues on an<br />
approximately 1:11 rota. Successful c<strong>and</strong>idates will be encouraged to maintain or develop special interests as part of their<br />
professional <strong>and</strong> career development. This could include prison sessions, a specific subspecialty outpatient clinic or an academic<br />

The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to inpatients <strong>and</strong><br />
ensure their eventual appropriate <strong>and</strong> safe transfer to a low secure or outpatient setting. This is part of a 50 bedded inpatient<br />
forensic service spread across 6 wards for men with mental illness or learning disability <strong>and</strong> forensic needs. The focus is on the<br />
rehabilitation into the community of patients whose risk management, treatment <strong>and</strong> support needs have been fully assessed by<br />
the clinical team. The successful c<strong>and</strong>idate would work predominantly with about 15 male inpatients in one low secure ward <strong>and</strong><br />
would be expected to retain responsibility for the care of patients who move to our pre-discharge ward. He or she will be<br />
expected to lead a multidisciplinary team <strong>and</strong> to assess patients for admission, including patients moving from medium <strong>and</strong> high<br />
security settings. This is a tremendous opportunity to join our service <strong>and</strong> take a full part in the ongoing development of the<br />
largest forensic service in Scotl<strong>and</strong>. There are established forensic community mental health teams covering the <strong>NHS</strong> <strong>Greater</strong><br />
<strong>Glasgow</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Clyde</strong> health board area <strong>and</strong> a forensic learning disability service. A 50 bedded low secure service exists at<br />
Leverndale Hospital, <strong>Glasgow</strong>. Medium secure care is based at the Rowanbank Clinic, a 74 bedded, purpose built unit which<br />
opened in 2007 at Stobhill Hospital in <strong>Glasgow</strong>. The Clinic is the medium secure unit for the West of Scotl<strong>and</strong> region with<br />
additional supra-regional <strong>and</strong> national remits including the national medium secure learning disability service. On call<br />
responsibilities will be shared with other consultant forensic psychiatrist colleagues on an approximately 1:11 rota. Successful<br />

The successful applicant will form an important <strong>and</strong> integral part of a multi disciplinary team providing a general adult service to<br />
adults aged between 18 <strong>and</strong> 65 years <strong>and</strong> will work with the Community Mental Health Team, the in-patient team <strong>and</strong> the Crisis<br />
Team. The associated inpatient beds are based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will be expected to work<br />
closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to the out patient population suffering from psychiatric illness. AMP<br />
status is desirable, otherwise it is expected that the post holders will complete Section 22 Mental Care <strong>and</strong> Treatment (Scotl<strong>and</strong>)<br />
Act Training <strong>and</strong> approval as soon as possible. The post holder will liaise with the parent ward, Community Mental Health Teams<br />

research projects in the last six months of the fellowship. On the clinical side, the members of the Division perform about 1000<br />
surgical procedures each year. About 750 of these procedures are elective hip <strong>and</strong> knee primary <strong>and</strong> revision procedures. About<br />
75 of these are procedures for urgent arthroplasty problems, such as infections, periprosthetic fractures. The training also<br />
includes conservative hip surgery like Hip arthroscopy <strong>and</strong> osteotomies around the hip. The Complex Joint Clinics <strong>and</strong> Young<br />
Hip clinics are tertiary care clinics that cater to patients with complex hip <strong>and</strong> knee problems. These clinics each week remain as<br />
the main outpatient clinic for the fellow. Participation in research <strong>and</strong> publication in basic science <strong>and</strong> clinical fields is<br />
