MEMBER OF THE MONTH
During a doctor visit in 1981, Bob mentioned his interest in golf to Dr. Fuller who highly recommended
a new private club in McKinney called Eldorado. We were then living in Richardson, so I took the
drive up to look at Eldorado and was very impressed. So impressed that I joined immediately!
We regularly commuted from Richardson until our home was available so
that we could enjoy the golf, social, and swimming pool amenities.
Since then, we have been members through the fire in 1996, renovation of
the course, changes in management and staff. But one great staff member
remains from the start of the club. Sharon Inge has worked at Eldorado
since 1981 and is also celebrating her 25th Anniversary along with the club
this year. She has been a great help to me throughout the years. Eldorado
has been our second home, with all the members and staff enhancing our
lives. They pull together and continue to help many members in the community
through times of distress. It is like a second family.
I hope that other members have taken the opportunity to get to know the staff and fellow members
as well as we have. If I haven’t yet met you, say hello and introduce yourself the next time
you see me at the club!
Angela Bloemer
We want to know why Eldorado is the club for you! If you have a great memory or just plain
enjoy being a member at Eldorado and would like to be featured in our Member of the Month
column please email Colleen in the Membership office at civey@eldoradocc.com.
Message From The Manager
April is full of great events. To kick off the month, Eldorado Country Club’s
25th Anniversary will be commemorated in a big way. On Friday, April 7th,
the entire membership is invited to help us celebrate. We have planned a
great event for kids and adults including movies, bounce house, tennis carnival,
a live country and western band with dancing, and a raffle for a year
lease of a 2006 Silver Chevrolet HHR Automobile! How about that The raffle
tickets can be purchased for $25.00/each or 5 for $100.00 and proceeds
will go to Hope’s Door Charity. You can purchase tickets at the Pro Shop, Tennis Shop, or the
Receptionist Desk. Join me Friday, April 7th, in your jeans and boots ready to party.
The time is here, Trigger is near! Trigger is in our sight and we need your help. Emails will be going
out asking for referrals and suggestions on ways to spend $16,000 a month. You may also pick up
the suggestion sheets at the receptionist desk. Here is YOUR chance to tell the board how to improve
your club. Do not wait!
On The Greens with Paul Hagy
As warmer temperatures approach, we will be implementing our cultural program on the greens. This
involves weekly topdressing and verti-cutting and monthly aerifications. Our current plan includes 5 aerifications.
They are as follows: May 8, June 12, July 17, August 14, and September 11th. Verti-cutting and topdressing
have already begun and will continue throughout the year.
Our aerification goal for this year is to displace 35% of the greens surface. We can achieve this through aerification
in two ways. One is to aerify 3 times a year with 1/2 inch tines. Each of these aerifications will take
about 3 weeks to heal in. The other is to use 3/8 inch tines which will heal up in around 10-14 days. We
have chosen the smaller tines with more aerifications to allow for a quicker recovery. By removing 35% of the surface, we will then have
smoother, firmer, and faster greens. Also, by having increased infiltration, nutrient uptake, less scalping and less disease we will have much
healthier long term turf. Please be patient with us during this process and realize the long term benefits outweigh the temporary disruption.
Thanks,
Paul Hagy, Golf Course Superintendent
