President’s <strong>Report</strong><br />
Bob Hanner, class of ’63, recently retired from the Georgia<br />
House of Representatives after 37 years, but his government service<br />
is not over yet. Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed Hanner as the executive<br />
manager of Water Policy for Georgia Soil and Water Conservation<br />
Commission. Hanner resides in Parrott, Ga., with his wife Linda.<br />
Chuck Bennett ’71 attended <strong>Gordon</strong> two<br />
periods in time, fall of 1965 to summer of 1967<br />
eventually graduating in the summer of 1971.<br />
Bennett has renovated hundreds of older and historic<br />
homes in the past 26 years. Bennett and his<br />
wife of 40 years, Fran, reside in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.<br />
George Butler ’71 served as the chairman of<br />
the <strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>College</strong> Foundation for 2011-2012.<br />
Norman Prevatte ’71 has worked for the<br />
Department of Justice in Virginia for the last 38<br />
years. He retired from the Army in 1995 as a lieutenant<br />
colonel. He was awarded the Southwest<br />
Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal,<br />
Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation<br />
Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal for<br />
his years of service<br />
Truman Boyle ’73 was nominated to serve<br />
on the 2013-2014 Alumni Association Board at<br />
<strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Boyle is employed by the<br />
Georgia <strong>State</strong> Patrol.<br />
Debra Lasseter Cone ’74 and Scott Cone<br />
’74 have been married for 38 years and returned<br />
to Barnesville six years ago after raising their two<br />
daughters in Atlanta. They have three grandchildren.<br />
Scott is employed with Honeywell Corp. in<br />
Norcross, and Debbie is the coordinator of the<br />
<strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> Welcome Center.<br />
1980s<br />
Britt Lifsey ’83 participated in the 2011 Leadership<br />
Lamar program sponsored by the Lamar<br />
County Chamber of Commerce.<br />
Mike Dillon ’85 attended Mercer University for<br />
his undergraduate degree and then went on to<br />
law school where he graduated in 1992. Dillon’s<br />
daughter Alexandra Dillon was married in St.<br />
Germaine la Ville, France, on July 7, 2012. Dillon<br />
and his wife Angela reside in Forsyth, Ga.<br />
Ginger Turner Lifsey ’85 recently transferred<br />
from the operating room to the post anesthesia<br />
care unit at Spalding Regional Medical Center.<br />
Ginger and her family dog Gabby participated in<br />
the Canine Good Citizen program hosted by the<br />
Community Education Department at <strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong>.<br />
1990s<br />
William Sands ’90 recently completed a 12<br />
month deployment in support of the NATO-led<br />
International Security Assistance Force Mission in<br />
Afghanistan where he received a second Bronze<br />
Star and two Air Medals for combat action.<br />
Kellie Roquemore Sappington ’97 is a third<br />
generation <strong>Gordon</strong> alumna. She received her A.S.<br />
in mathematics and then transferred to the University<br />
of Georgia for a B.S. in mathematics and<br />
a B.S. in physics. She works as a study expert<br />
in math, physics and statistics at Study Edge in<br />
Athens, Ga.<br />
Courtney Toon McDaniel ’98 began a new<br />
position as director of Children with Special<br />
Needs Programs for District 4 Public Health<br />
in March of 2012. McDaniel will oversee four<br />
programs that serve a 12-county public health<br />
district in West Central Georgia.<br />
Erin Green Ison ’99 was nominated to serve<br />
on the 2013-2014 Alumni Association Board at<br />
<strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Ison is a teacher at Pike<br />
County High School.<br />
Rebecca Jackson ’99 a registered nurse at<br />
Sylvan Grove Hospital, is the first winner of the<br />
DAISY award at the hospital. The award recognizes<br />
the outstanding work nurses do every day,<br />
and comes with a certificate, pin, and the Healer’s<br />
Touch sculpture designed by the Diseases Attacking<br />
the Immune System (DAISY) Foundation.<br />
2000s<br />
Kelly Hayes Adamson ’00 graduated from<br />
Mercer University in 2002. Adamson taught at<br />
Futral Road Elementary school in Griffin, Ga., for<br />
two years and will begin her 8th year at Lamar<br />
County Elementary School as a 5th grade math<br />
teacher. Adamson and her husband Al reside in<br />
Barnesville, Ga., and have three children.<br />
Tony Chastain ’74 graduated from Georgia<br />
Southwestern in ’76. Chastain has worked in<br />
the textile industry for more than 30 years and is<br />
currently employed by 1888 Mills in Griffin, Ga.<br />
He and his wife, Dianne, have three children, one<br />
of which is employed at <strong>Gordon</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> as<br />
controller. Chastain and his wife reside in Thomaston,<br />
Ga., and have four grandchildren.<br />

Wins Gold<br />
Mike Sweat (right), now known as George Scott,<br />
threw a 16.01 lb. shot 33 feet and 4 inches for a<br />
gold medal at the 2011 Georgia Golden Olympics.
