5) Def<strong>in</strong>e epidemiological needs of the community<br />

6) Identify the basics of cl<strong>in</strong>ical epidemiology.<br />

7) Identify how the health care delivery system <strong>in</strong> Egypt operates as well as the medico<br />

legal legislations <strong>in</strong> Egypt.<br />

8) Identify the uses, effects, side effects and drug <strong>in</strong>teractions of common drugs <strong>in</strong> adults,<br />

pediatrics, geriatrics, and patients with liver or kidney diseases, pregnant and lactat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

females (essential drug list).<br />

9) Identify the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of medical ethics that guide the doctor-patient and the doctordoctor<br />

relationships at the different levels of health care services.<br />

10) List the basis of research, critical appraisal of researches and evidence based<br />

medic<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

11) Identify the etiology, cl<strong>in</strong>ical manifestations, differential diagnosis and management of<br />

the common drug and substance abuse problems as well as the management of their<br />

withdrawal symptoms.<br />

B. Intellectual Skills: By the end of the program the candidate should be able to:<br />

1) Integrate the <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation gathered from medical records, history, cl<strong>in</strong>ical exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />

and <strong>in</strong>vestigations to reach a proper diagnosis or a differential diagnosis.<br />

2) Appraise research articles critically.<br />

3) Interpret statistical results efficiently and apply the results <strong>in</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance improvement.<br />

4) Manage resources effectively (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g time).<br />

5) Conduct community needs assessments.<br />

C. Professional and Practical Skills: By the end of the program the candidate should be<br />

able to:<br />

1) Apply proper consultation through; medical records, history tak<strong>in</strong>g, cl<strong>in</strong>ical exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />

and selection of the proper <strong>in</strong>vestigations accord<strong>in</strong>g to the human life cycle to develop<br />

an appropriate patient centered management plan.<br />

2) Provide appropriate counsel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> health and disease.<br />

3) Manage acute emergency cases <strong>in</strong>itially, per<strong>for</strong>m fundamental life support measures<br />

when <strong>in</strong>dicated and per<strong>for</strong>m proper referral.<br />

4) Per<strong>for</strong>m rout<strong>in</strong>e procedures needed <strong>in</strong> family practice.<br />

5) Use drugs appropriately <strong>in</strong> a cost effective manner.<br />

6) Demonstrate the ability to communicate <strong>in</strong> multiple modalities with patients, their<br />

families, other health care providers and adm<strong>in</strong>istrators.<br />
