DUTY STATEMENT<br />

The <strong>Library</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> reports to the Head of <strong>Library</strong>, who delegates day-to-day supervision to the<br />

<strong>Junior</strong> <strong>School</strong> Teacher Librarian, and co-operates with other members of the <strong>Library</strong> team to support<br />

a service to staff and students that encourages the development of information literacy skills,<br />

independent learning and lifelong learning.<br />

A OUTLINE<br />

Non-teaching staff are recruited and employed by the Business Manager. These staff are allocated to<br />

departments within the <strong>College</strong> and work under the direct supervision of the Head of that department.<br />

B. DUTY SATEMENT<br />

The <strong>Library</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> is a clerical assistant, appointed to the <strong>Library</strong> Department, who works in<br />

support of library operations, particularly in the following areas:<br />

Services to Clients:<br />

• Assisting at circulation desk – loans, returns, reservations, bookings.<br />

• Checking photocopier and printers.<br />

• Assisting with general supervision of students in the <strong>Library</strong>.<br />

• Assisting with and referring ICT queries.<br />

• Managing maintenance and issue of laptops.<br />

• Assisting with <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>School</strong> staff requests for resources.<br />

• Instruction and supervision of parent volunteers.<br />

• Assisting with supervision of library monitors and helpers.<br />

Collection-related tasks:<br />

• Shelving/shelf reading all library materials.<br />

• Processing new material, including maintaining adequate levels of supplies of processing<br />

materials.<br />

• Maintaining resource boxes and book boxes of recommended reading (collecting items,<br />

monitoring currency, re-shelving as necessary).<br />

• Assisting with stock maintenance, e.g. repairs and stocktaking.<br />

Circulation:<br />

• Managing overdue resources and non-returned items.<br />

• Assisting with overdue notices.<br />

• Setting up and maintaining borrower records as needed.<br />

• Issuing and returning teacher resources and department resources at beginning and end of<br />

year, or as necessary.<br />

Other:<br />

• Liaising with staff from the Secondary <strong>Library</strong>, occasionally assisting support staff in that area.<br />

• Assistance with setting up displays.<br />

• Any other tasks negotiated with the Head of <strong>Library</strong> as delegated to the <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>School</strong> Teacher<br />

Librarian.

The successful applicant who is offered the job will be subject to employment screening processes<br />

with the Australian Federal Police National Police Check (NPC) and be required to make a formal<br />

child protection statement.<br />
