AIM OF NEW ZEALAND CRICKET<br />

<strong>Cricket</strong> is recognised as <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>’s premier summer sport. We want cricket to be a vibrant game able to inspire <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> through<br />

outstanding performance.<br />

Ferns teams supported by elite player development programmes; developing a strong and sustainable commercial base; and delivering<br />

successful sporting events.<br />

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION<br />

The role will have overall responsibility to ensure cricket participation grows and is sustained at all levels of school-aged players. The<br />

primary focus is to deliver quality support infrastructure and resources to promote and improve the efficiency of the national development<br />

programmes, through the Major Association (MA) network of clubs and districts.<br />

TASK DESCRIPTION (Prime Responsibilities)<br />

Strategic Focus To design, implement, monitor and resource the national community player development<br />

programme and to ensure its alignment with the national coaching development programme.<br />

<br />

To engage with <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong>’s Major and District Associations to ensure they are familiar<br />

with the national player development programme, its objectives and their responsibilities to deliver<br />

and sustain it.<br />

Operational Responsibilities To design, implement, lead and monitor the national coaching and development programmes by:<br />

Annually review the relevance and freshness of the national community player<br />

development programme (clubs and schools), presenting improvements or changes<br />

considered necessary to the GM <strong>Cricket</strong> Development for approval.<br />

Ensure any changes are communicated to deliverers of the programme<br />

Establish, in consultation with MAs and the GM <strong>Cricket</strong> Development, agreed measurable<br />

targets for MAs and DAs to be included in annual SLAs between NZC/MAs and MAs/DAs.<br />

Monitor results of MAs against those targets<br />

Oversee the organisation and coordination of the supply and distribution of resources to<br />

schools and clubs involved with the development initiatives, in particular Have-A-Go<br />

<strong>Cricket</strong> and Kiwi <strong>Cricket</strong><br />

Ensure MAs/DAs capture player information from clubs and schools for the national<br />

database, including census figures<br />

Oversee the promotion and acknowledgement of the positive contribution to primary<br />

schools and junior cricket of parents, teachers and volunteer coaches (volunteer strategy)<br />

Update and develop the ‘Development’ section of the NZC website<br />

Ensure sustenance of the national development programme recruitment initiatives by<br />

providing support information and services to recruitment of volunteers, umpires,<br />

administrators, scorers, coaches by engaging the cricket development network with<br />

NZC’s officers in the above disciplines and NZC development resource material<br />

o Recommend strategies and oversee delivery of mechanisms to transition secondary<br />

school players into clubs.<br />

Organise in conjunction with NZC’s <strong>Cricket</strong> Operations group the running of the national primary<br />

school development competitions and secondary schools finals<br />

To assist, prepare and conduct appropriate workshops based on sound training principles for the<br />

various initiatives for the Community <strong>Cricket</strong> Coordinators, including participation in the National<br />

Development Conference and attending the District Forum to allow administrators to network,<br />

exchange ideas and participate in educative and discussion sessions<br />

To provide advice, guidance, information and resources to schools and clubs through the MA<br />

network on health checks, planning, financial management, administrative efficiency, using the<br />

major cricket association CoachForce Director to set up more structured coaching and practice<br />

programmes, upgrading and/or development of facilities, especially high quality artificial pitches and<br />

practice facilities, creating school leaver databases, and establishing links with secondary schools<br />

to allow the seamless transition of players (eg promote wider use of the “club is the hub” principles)<br />

To research, design and implement special projects to improve, expand and sustain secondary<br />

school cricket<br />

Proven success in a similar role with 5-7 years’ experience within a school and/or cricket administration environment<br />

Strong management skills with 2-3 years’ experience at a mid to senior level<br />

A strong track record in dealing comfortably with senior management, schools, junior clubs, coaches, volunteers, and education<br />

administrators in a variety of formal presentation settings<br />
