Absorption
Chillers
Thermax pioneered vapour
absorption technology in India and
still continues to be the leader in this
field. Absorption cooling has
emerged as a viable alternative to
conventional electric systems due to
a variety of reasons - shortage of
power, the move towards
distributed power, planned phase
out of the CFC/ HCFC based
refrigerants and growing concerns
about global warming. The
technology is based on heat – steam,
hot water, exhaust gases and other
fuels – replacing electricity for
cooling. As water is used as the
refrigerant, absorption technology
has zero ozone depletion potential
and it rules out any future
conversion cost. Moreover, it
reduces green house emissions by
50%.
Thermax offers the largest product
range in the world, designed to suit
every process – chilling and air
conditioning as well as customized
requirements. Vapour absorption
technology from Thermax is at work
for clients in the pharmaceutical,
chemical, fertilizer, textile and
automobile industries, as well as in
hotels, cinema halls, shopping
complexes and office buildings.
Today, specialised applications such
as inlet air-cooling with Thermax
chillers are improving output and
productivity in the petrochemical
and power industries. Also on offer
are CHPC (Combined Heating Power
and Cooling) solutions for greater
energy efficiency.
Applications
Thermax offers energy solutions in
power, heating and cooling.
Leveraging its core strengths in
absorption cooling and process
heating, Thermax offers optimised,
turnkey, single point, solar power
based solutions in these areas,
across various applications. They
make use of the company's
extensive and varied experience
with industrial processes, expertise
in application R&D, and its trained
and dedicated manpower.
Thermax is also pioneering the
indigenous development of cost
competitive solar thermal power
plants using solar concentrators.
Drawing on its EPC capability in the
power sector, Thermax provides
solar thermal and photovoltaic
solution.
Thermax's solar thermal offerings
reflect the growing international
concern about the volatile prices of
conventional energy and the threat
from the impact of carbon dioxide
emissions from energy
consumption, and the growing
possibilities of harnessing solar
energy as a perennial, nonpolluting
energy source.
Customer benefits
Reliable and eco-friendly
technology
Reduces carbon footprint
Single window solution in
integrated packages
Saves operating cost
Maximum capture of solar
energy
Harnessing the power of the sun
Solar Thermal Cooling
Thermax provides solar thermal cooling solutions, using
parabolic concentrators integrated with thermally driven
double effect absorption chillers, which substantially reduce
the power consumption as compared to conventional
electrically powered ACs.
Buildings consume more than 40% of the world's energy (IEA
2007), with the main areas of usage being
Product features
Fixed focus
PLC based daily tracking system
Auto focus, defocus and refocus controls
Space saving design
Modular design for safe and easy operation & maintenance
Concentration ratio of more than 70
Heating (Hot Water, Process Steam, Space Heating
Cooling (Air Conditioning, Cold Storage)
Electricity
Lighting (Artificial, Ambient)
50% of electrical usage is for ACs, which together with
lighting account for the biggest use of electricity.
Solar Thermal Heating
Use of parabolic solar concentrating technology is a tested
and proven method of generating steam using solar energy.
The Thermax system tracks the sun automatically throughout
the day, has a provision for seasonal tracking, and the process
of steam generation is natural, eco-friendly and for long
stretches of time.
Using solar parabolic concentrators, the system generates hot
0
water at temperatures as high as 140 C, and saturated steam
at pressures of 3 to 4 bar.
Some application areas
Boiler feed water preheating
Washing in laundries
Space heating
Oil preheating
Metal pretreatment in paint shops
Milk pasteurisation
Steam cooking
