English Baccalaureate<br />

English<br />

• Three <strong>Pathways</strong>:<br />

– English Option 1: Two GCSE in English Language<br />

and Literature taken over two years.<br />

– English Option 2: English Single award taken in<br />

May 2014 followed by a second GCSE in Media<br />

– English Option 3: Single award English only taken<br />

over two <strong>Year</strong>s


Science<br />

• The school will advise on the most<br />

appropriate course for your son/daughter:<br />

– iGCSE – Physics and Chemistry<br />

– BTEC


Languages<br />

• The majority of students must either choose a<br />

core Language which you are already studying<br />

from:<br />

– French<br />

– German<br />

– Spanish<br />

– Mandarin<br />

– Japanese


The Pathway<br />

–The core<br />

–Two option choices these include:<br />

• Two by invitation only<br />

• Four BTEC courses<br />

• A range of other GCSE courses<br />

–You will be advised if a BTEC course is<br />

the most appropriate course for you.


The Vocational Route<br />

–The core (a streamlined core)<br />

–Range of on and offsite qualifications

What is a BTEC<br />

• A more practical way of working<br />

• A more hands on approach<br />

• A number of internal and external assessed<br />

assignments<br />

• Award equivalent of 1 GCSEs “A*-C” grades<br />

• Certificate equivalent of 2 GCSEs “A*-C” grades


Offsite Provision<br />

• Equivalent of one/two GCSE grade<br />

• A recognised progression route to<br />

college/employment in practical subjects<br />

• The opportunity to fast track post 16


Helpful Tips<br />

• Don’t take a subject because you like your<br />

current teacher.<br />

• Do take a subject because you enjoy and are<br />

good at it.<br />

• Find out about courses you have not studied<br />

before.

• Speak to your Tutor, Achievement co-ordinator or<br />

subject teacher for advice<br />
