Creating an Original Masterpiece.
The utilization of new tools often leads to new discoveries.
Using the latest in digital technologies, historic instruments
made by the masters Guarneri del Gesu and Antonio Stradivari
were carefully measured and extensively analyzed. Through this
time consuming process, Yamaha uncovered intricacies that
had been kept secret in these instruments for over 300 years.
This data would prove priceless in creating the blueprints that
would be used to produce Yamaha original masterpieces.
Turning the Data Into Reality.
From this data, cutting edge three-dimensional CAD modeling
technology was utilized to create ideal virtual designs of the real
things. And then, from these designs, individual parts were produced
using advanced numerical control processing—accurate
to within 50 microns. Such skillful use of advanced technologies
in the analysis, design, and initial production stages of
these instruments has contributed greatly to their uniform
quality and exceptional level of cost performance.

It is at this point that the
artisan’s highly refined skills
can be applied to bring out the
full potential in character and
tone from the woods, thus creating
aviolin of superior quality
and character. Top, back, sides,
neck, each part is painstakingly
brought to perfection by the
skilled hands of the craftsman.
Yes, it involves a great deal of
work—about 90% of the work
that goes into each instrument
is actually done by hand—
but it results in instruments of
the highest caliber.
Special Seasoning
Assembled instruments that are destined to become top of the
line YVN200 series models are next sent on to a specially developed
seasoning process. Placing the instrument in a computer
controlled environment where seasonal changes in temperature
and humidity are simulated at an accelerated rate allows the
parts to settle naturally into place, thus reducing tonal
imbalances and enhancing the instrument’s tonal quality.
When the violin finally reaches the hands of the customer,
it is matured and ready to
play—an instrument of the
utmost in quality.
Yamaha has also applied
an initial response acceleration
effect to both the 200 and 100
series instruments. This special
process produces instruments
with a mature response,
as if they have been played
repeatedly.
Selecting the Finest Woods
The most critical element in the making of any fine instrument
is the selection of materials. Over a century’s worth of
accumulated experience in the production of fine acoustic
pianos and guitars has provided our master craftsmen with an
extensive knowledge of woods. They know which pieces will
make a fine instrument and take great care in selecting pieces of
the highest quality. The standards defined for material selection
for these violins are extremely
high. Only the finest of premium
cuts of spruce are considered
for tops and materials for
back, sides, and neck must pass
the strictest standards, which
include qualities such as density,
grain, beauty, strength and
light weight.
Application of the Finish
As in the selection of woods, our deep-rooted experience with
pianos and fine acoustic guitars has given us a vast knowledge
of instrument finishes, and the
varnish specially formulated
for use on Yamaha violins has
benefited greatly from this.
Carefully applied by hand with
a brush, multiple coats of this
finish result in a tone that is
reminiscent of historic Italian
violins, and produce an elegant
red amber gloss.

These are instruments that possess great emotion, delivering full,
rich tone with clear low-mids and a high range that is sweet and
melodious. Using a design based on the analysis and modeling of
instruments made by the master Guarneri del Gesu, our master
craftsmen have gone to great lengths to ensure that the YVN200G
provides the finest in materials, design, technology, and craftsmanship
that Yamaha has to offer. Similarly, the YVN100G offers exceptional
quality and outstanding cost performance.
Based on analysis and modeling of the Stradivari design, the
YVN200S and YVN100S produce a brilliant, noble tone that is
reminiscent of their roots. Highly responsive instruments, they
follow the player’s every whim and are exceptionally sensitive to the
slightest changes in bowing.
The YVN200S instruments represent the finest in materials,
design, and craftsmanship Yamaha has to offer. Like the YVN100G,
the YVN100S also offers exceptional quality and outstanding cost
performance.

Refined quality in both finish and sound
An excellent choice for the intermediate
to advanced player
The AV20G is a Guarneri inspired violin which produces a rich and sweet,
yet powerful sound. Each instrument is painstakingly finished with a specially
formulated shading oil varnish that gives the instrument a beautiful texture.
Application of the finish requires great skill as it is applied by hand using a wide
faced brush. It is well worth the effort though for the value it adds to its looks
and charm. All materials are carefully selected and like the YVN series violins,
you will find excellent, uniform sound quality in every instrument.
Designed especially for the young performer, the AV10G is based on the
same Stradivari inspired design as the YVN200S and YVN100S violins.
Each instrument features a hand-carved spruce top, maple sides and back,
and a special hand applied shading oil varnish that is normally found only
on higher-price instruments.

VNP1 Violin Bridge Pickup System
More and more, the violin is finding itself out of its classical
surroundings and on the mainstream stage, performing in
contemporary musical settings where obtaining optimum
sound output under ever varying conditions has been difficult
to say the least. The VNP1 is a fully-grounded, dual-sensor
bridge pickup system installed in an Aubert bridge blank
connected to a single-barrel, side-mounted jack that will not
interfere with the player’s shoulder rest. It is
designed to fight against outside noise and
interference while effectively capturing the
violin’s full sound spectrum.
