<strong>The</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> is excited to welcome back Frank Runyeon, <strong>The</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> <strong>School</strong> class of 1971,<br />

tonight, September 23rd, at 7:30 PM in the Dining Hall (note location change). Mr.<br />

Runyeon is an American actor who is best known as starring opposite Meg Ryan as Steve<br />

Andropoulos on As the World Turns. He was famously Father Michael Donnelly on the Emmy<br />

award-winning Santa Barbara, <strong>and</strong> appe<strong>are</strong>d as a tycoon on General Hospital. He has<br />

also guest starred in reoccurring roles on primetime television.<br />

Mr. Runyeon is a graduate of Princeton with a degree in Religion <strong>and</strong> Yale divinity <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> General <strong>The</strong>ological Seminary, from which he received his Masters, with honors, in<br />

1994. He has translated <strong>and</strong> adapted six Biblical texts for performances as one-man<br />

dramas <strong>and</strong> is also a popular youth speaker on the subject of mass media. Mr. Runyeon is<br />

currently writing an autobiographical book Escape From Hollywood: An Actor’s Journey to<br />

Faith.<br />

Hollywood <strong>and</strong> <strong>Whatsoever</strong> <strong>Things</strong> Are True is required for the Sixth Form <strong>and</strong> is optional<br />

for the Fifth Form. First Presbyterian Church is a co-sponsor <strong>and</strong> local church youth groups<br />

will be joining us for the evening.<br />

College Night<br />

<strong>The</strong> College Advisers’ Office will be hosting a program with a number of college representatives<br />

on Tuesday, September 27th, from 7:15 PM - 8:30 PM. Fifth Form students <strong>are</strong> required<br />

to attend; Sixth Form students <strong>are</strong> encouraged to attend. Future dates for College Night <strong>are</strong><br />

October 8th, <strong>and</strong> October 11th.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Fourth <strong>and</strong> Fifth Forms will be meeting at 10:40 AM in the Center For <strong>The</strong> Arts (CFTA).<br />

Saturday, October 1st, is a “C” schedule.<br />

What time do day students need to arrive in the morning<br />

Day students may arrive any time prior to their first class. Each day will change depending on his/her schedule.<br />

<br />

My child wants to stay in the evening to complete his work. Where is he able to work during study hall<br />

Third Formers may not use the library during the fall term <strong>and</strong> <strong>are</strong> to depart campus by 7:30 PM. Day students who <strong>are</strong> on<br />

campus in the evening must sign in at the Ryan Library the same time the boarders check into the dormitory. Day students <strong>are</strong><br />

permitted to use the library or work with an instructor; day students may not be in the dormitory during study hall hours. <strong>The</strong><br />

library is closed at 9:00 PM on Sundays <strong>and</strong> is closed on Tuesday evenings.<br />

What time in the evening must day students depart campus<br />

Day students must depart by their form check in after break. Third Form (winter/spring) is 10:00 PM, Fourth form is 10:15<br />

PM, <strong>and</strong> the Sixth Form is 10:45 PM.<br />

<br />

Does my child need to attend dinner<br />

Day students who <strong>are</strong> on campus during a seated dinner must attend the meal with the boarders.<br />

<br />

If my child is ill <strong>and</strong> will not be at school, who do I call<br />

Students who <strong>are</strong> ill or have a fever <strong>are</strong> not to attend school <strong>and</strong> a p<strong>are</strong>nt is to call <strong>The</strong> Health Center by 8:25 AM.<br />

<br />

I was able to schedule my child for an orthodontist appointment, but I will need to pick her up during the school day.<br />

Who should I contact about her appointment<br />

P<strong>are</strong>nts <strong>are</strong> to call <strong>The</strong> Health Center for all medical appointments. Day students <strong>are</strong> to report to the Health Center to depart<br />

campus <strong>and</strong> need to report to <strong>The</strong> Health Center upon their return to campus.<br />

<br />

My child is on the bus for an awful long time. Who do I contact about his bussing situation<br />

Families having bussing issues need to contact their local school district personally.<br />

<br />

Can my child drive to school<br />

Day students may drive to school <strong>and</strong> from school only. Students <strong>are</strong> required to complete a form in the Deans’ Office to receive<br />

a parking permit. At no time <strong>are</strong> boarders allowed to ride with day students.<br />

<br />

Are day students involved in the Student Government Association (SGA)<br />

Day students <strong>are</strong> members of the SGA. In the spring, current day students vote for one male representative <strong>and</strong> one female<br />

representative. For the 2011-12 school year, Nana Owusu ‘14 <strong>and</strong> Leah Proctor ‘14 <strong>are</strong> the day student representatives on<br />

SGA.<br />

Where can day students keep their belongings (books <strong>and</strong> equipment)<br />

Day students <strong>are</strong> provided with a locker for books in the Student Center <strong>and</strong> a locker in the athletic facility for sport equipment.<br />

Students <strong>are</strong> to lock their lockers.<br />

<br />

Why won’t my child answer her phone when I call<br />

Cell phones <strong>are</strong> to be be set to vibrate or quiet. Students <strong>are</strong> busy with classes <strong>and</strong> other commitments during the day <strong>and</strong> <strong>are</strong><br />

not permitted to use their cell phones freely. Our guiding principle is that cell phones should never interfere with personal interaction<br />

between members of our community.<br />

If my child earns a detention, is he required to come to detention on a weekend<br />

Yes, detention for all students is Saturday evenings from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM <strong>and</strong> Sunday mornings from 8:00 AM to<br />

11:00 AM.


My son wants to use <strong>The</strong> Writing Center. Who should he contact<br />

<strong>The</strong> Writing Center is open during the academic day <strong>and</strong> in the evenings. Students <strong>are</strong> to email Mr. Reid (treid@thehill.org)<br />

for an appointment.<br />

<br />

My daughter wants to invite a few boarding students to spend the night. How do we do so<br />

Boarding students <strong>are</strong> to complete a card stating that they would like to spend the night at your house. As a host, day p<strong>are</strong>nts<br />

<strong>are</strong> to call the Deans’ Office to confirm the invite. Please have first <strong>and</strong> last names of the students who will be spending the<br />

night. Boarders may not spend the night off campus on closed weekends.<br />

<br />

My child lost his swipe card <strong>and</strong> mailbox key. Who should he contact for a replacement<br />

Students should contact Mrs. Weil in the Student Activities Office as soon as possible so the missing swipe card can be deactivated<br />

<strong>and</strong> a replacement card issued. Mailbox keys <strong>are</strong> issued by the Business Office.<br />

<br />

Can my child participate in weekend activities<br />

All students <strong>are</strong> encouraged to participate in activities. Students can view the activities on Blackboard <strong>and</strong> on the calendar<br />

sent to students each week. Students who <strong>are</strong> interested in an activity <strong>are</strong> to sign up on Blackboard.<br />

<br />

Our school district transportation has a two-hour delay <strong>and</strong> our child will arrive late to school. Who should I call<br />

When day students <strong>are</strong> going to arrive late for classes, a p<strong>are</strong>nts is to call the Deans’ Office (610.705.1335) by 8:25<br />

AM. (<strong>The</strong> same applies if your child’s school is closed because of inclement weather.)<br />

<br />

What <strong>are</strong> Social Saturdays<br />

Social Saturdays <strong>are</strong> permitted once a term for day students to spend the night on campus for recreational purposes. Day<br />

students <strong>are</strong> to request an overnight at the Student Activities Office <strong>and</strong> complete a form by 1:30 PM on Thursday. P<strong>are</strong>nts<br />

<strong>are</strong> to call Mrs. Weil (610.705.1286) to confirm by Friday at noon.<br />

<br />

Can our child stay overnight while we <strong>are</strong> out of town<br />

Day students may only stay overnight for inclement weather or for required events that end/return late or depart prior to<br />

8:25 AM. Day students will often stay with other day students at their homes.<br />

Can my child board for more than one year<br />
