Teacher Inform<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

This guide is intended to assist teachers who are ei<strong>the</strong>r considering or planning an <strong>Outdoor</strong> <strong>Educ<strong>at</strong>ion</strong><br />

experience <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Rockies</strong> <strong>Estes</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. Our program is flexible, which allows you to<br />

cre<strong>at</strong>e an experience th<strong>at</strong> will best meet <strong>the</strong> needs <strong>of</strong> your students. This program averages 6000+<br />

students and 100+ schools per year. Our busiest months are September, October, April and May. Groups<br />

seeking specific d<strong>at</strong>es generally need to book 8 months to a year in advance. If you have any questions,<br />

You will receive a confirm<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> OE classes and recre<strong>at</strong>ion schedule before your arrival.<br />

SITE LOCATION<br />

The <strong>Estes</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Center</strong> is 65 miles NW <strong>of</strong> Denver and three miles SW <strong>of</strong> <strong>Estes</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>at</strong> an elev<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> 8010<br />

feet. Our <strong>Center</strong> is loc<strong>at</strong>ed on 860+ acres <strong>of</strong> forested mountain land. We are bordered on 3 sides by<br />

Rocky Mountain N<strong>at</strong>ional <strong>Park</strong>. Spectacular mountain vistas and open spaces will enhance your<br />

students' mountain experience.<br />

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

The contact teacher is responsible to review <strong>the</strong> class schedule and make copies for all group leaders<br />

prior to arrival.<br />

No class schedule change requests will be honored 3 weeks prior to visit.<br />

The contact teacher is responsible to inform <strong>the</strong> <strong>Outdoor</strong> <strong>Educ<strong>at</strong>ion</strong> Coordin<strong>at</strong>or in regards to any<br />

students with special needs prior to arrival so we can better serve your students.


Each school will be responsible for organizing students into letter groups. Example: A-F. Students should<br />

be assigned to groups prior to arrival. The <strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Outdoor</strong> <strong>Educ<strong>at</strong>ion</strong> coordin<strong>at</strong>or will determine <strong>the</strong><br />

number <strong>of</strong> groups.<br />

Each school will name one teacher to be <strong>the</strong> contact teacher during your stay. This person will act as <strong>the</strong><br />

liaison between <strong>the</strong> school and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Estes</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Center</strong>.<br />

The lead teacher is responsible to assign one adult school represent<strong>at</strong>ive to each letter group prior to<br />

arrival.<br />

There should be a shared understanding among teachers, adult chaperons, <strong>the</strong> OE Coordin<strong>at</strong>or and OE<br />

Instructors th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> general behavior <strong>of</strong> student is a shared responsibility. If deemed necessary by <strong>the</strong><br />

OE Instructor, a student may be removed from <strong>the</strong> group for a specific activity or dur<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> class.<br />

The decision to send a student home is up to <strong>the</strong> school represent<strong>at</strong>ives.
