Teacher Information
This guide is intended to assist teachers who are either considering or planning an Outdoor Education
experience at the YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center. Our program is flexible, which allows you to
create an experience that will best meet the needs of your students. This program averages 6000+
students and 100+ schools per year. Our busiest months are September, October, April and May. Groups
seeking specific dates generally need to book 8 months to a year in advance. If you have any questions,

You will receive a confirmation of OE classes and recreation schedule before your arrival.
SITE LOCATION
The Estes Park Center is 65 miles NW of Denver and three miles SW of Estes Park at an elevation of 8010
feet. Our Center is located on 860+ acres of forested mountain land. We are bordered on 3 sides by
Rocky Mountain National Park. Spectacular mountain vistas and open spaces will enhance your
students' mountain experience.
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
The contact teacher is responsible to review the class schedule and make copies for all group leaders
prior to arrival.
No class schedule change requests will be honored 3 weeks prior to visit.
The contact teacher is responsible to inform the Outdoor Education Coordinator in regards to any
students with special needs prior to arrival so we can better serve your students.

Each school will be responsible for organizing students into letter groups. Example: A-F. Students should
be assigned to groups prior to arrival. The YMCA Outdoor Education coordinator will determine the
number of groups.
Each school will name one teacher to be the contact teacher during your stay. This person will act as the
liaison between the school and the Estes Park Center.
The lead teacher is responsible to assign one adult school representative to each letter group prior to
arrival.
There should be a shared understanding among teachers, adult chaperons, the OE Coordinator and OE
Instructors that the general behavior of student is a shared responsibility. If deemed necessary by the
OE Instructor, a student may be removed from the group for a specific activity or duration of the class.
The decision to send a student home is up to the school representatives.
