Writing Assignment #1- Strengths Analysis
After thinking about my top three strengths were, I found my main strengths to be competitive, communication-oriented,
and oriented toward making new personal connections. many of these strengths have been
evident in my sales jobs, my work ethic through high school and college, and in my social relationships.
First, I have always been a very competitive person in everything I do. I played football, basketball, and
baseball from 3rd grade until the end of high school. I love playing sports and keeping active, but ultimately I
wanted to win every time I took the field or court. I strive to be the best, and if I am not then I strive to beat the
best. Many people are very goal-oriented, meaning they set short-term and long-term goals to achieve, and be
successful. I like to set goals, and become competitive with myself to achieve them. I now use my competitive
nature for school, as well as for work. I work for Mealey's furniture and make my money by commission of
sales. There are 50 plus sales people in the company, scattered through five different stores, and I always strive
to be in the top ten in all sales categories. Using my competitiveness has helped me achieve many goals and
over-achieve in many aspects of my life.
Next, I am very communication-oriented in my daily social interactions, both on-the-job, and in my free
time. Many people find it hard to talk to people you don't know, or get up in front of a group and present, but I
find it to be quite exhilarating. Because I work in sales, I need to convey what I am trying to say in a clear and
concise manner. I have worked on this diligently throughout the many sales jobs I have during my college career,
and I can now say that I have become very good at getting my point across. I even use my communication-oriented
skills at the bars talking with girls. ultimately you have nothing to lose if a girl doesn't want to
talk to you, but there is much to gain if she is interested. I like to exude a certain amount of confidence when
speaking to customers, or clients, because it makes them pay attention and listen.
Finally, it is essential to extend your personality, and build relationships with customers and clients if
you want to be successful in sales. When selling a customer I like to get a good amount of information about
them, as well as give them a little something about me to take with them (Ultimately, people interact with others
they can trust and hold a conversation with.) Many of my friends used to call me a "social butterfly" in high
school because I didn't mind talking and building relationships with people I didn't know. I never shy away
from a conversation, and that has made me a more confident person in everything I do. I work hard to build my
relationships with people, and because of that the returns are endless.
In conclusion, many of my strengths are associated with my interaction within my job, my sales experience,
and my everyday social interactions. My ultimate goal after I graduate is to become an account executive
for an advertising firm. I will need to continue being strong in all of these strengths in order to be successful.
My competitive nature feeds my desire to be the best at every task I undertake. My communication skills can
always improve, but I know that there is a strong foundation there that I can build upon. Lastly, it is a huge
strength to be able to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships with clients, friends, and loved ones. I
hope to build upon all three strengths to build my network, make more long-lasting relationships, and be immensely
successful in my future endeavors.
