Dear <strong>Mumbai</strong>kar,<br />

You may be aware that ‘Mithi Nadi’, Which starts from the hilly area of National Park - Borivali, <strong>Mumbai</strong> and ends after<br />

travell<strong>in</strong>g about 12 kms <strong>in</strong>to Arabian sea near Mahul. In monsoons, the water of these hills, forests <strong>com</strong>es <strong>in</strong>to Tulsi<br />

Lake – Vihar Lake – Powai Lake, which are <strong>in</strong>terconnected. When these lakes overflow, the water via Powai Lake<br />

<strong>com</strong>es <strong>in</strong>to Mith<strong>in</strong>adi near L & T Junction. Here are some photographs, presentations on the present status,<br />

importance, problems, solutions of Mith<strong>in</strong>adi.<br />

♦Half of the ‘Mith<strong>in</strong>adi’ has been encroached<br />

♦Many gutters, Nallahs of BMC are float<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to ‘Mith<strong>in</strong>adi’<br />

♦There are almost 3000 unauthorized encroachments like Commercial Galas, Small Workshops, Conta<strong>in</strong>er Yards etc.<br />

♦The garbage and polluted water of these <strong>in</strong>dustries flows <strong>in</strong>to this river<br />

♦Garbage, sewer water from nearby slums flows <strong>in</strong>to this river<br />

♦The problem of encroachment, pollution have <strong>in</strong>creased rapidly <strong>in</strong> last 10 yrs.<br />

♦There is no regulation, supervision, monitor<strong>in</strong>g of any authority<br />

♦The water problem, floods from L & T Junction, Sak<strong>in</strong>aka, Kurla, Kamani Kalpana Talkies Junction, Bandra – Kurla<br />

Complex became <strong>in</strong> last couple of years<br />

♦We must <strong>in</strong>itiate corrective measures before the onset of monsoons for the betterment of 10 Lacs localities<br />

♦Immediate Survey is required<br />

♦Identification of problem is necessary<br />

♦Diversion of all BMC, Sewer L<strong>in</strong>e, Nallah is required<br />

♦Removal of encroachments is necessary<br />

♦Rehabilitation, relocation of nearby residential slums<br />

♦Strict action aga<strong>in</strong>st the <strong>in</strong>dustrial pollution<br />

♦The master plan must be developed with the help of Environment M<strong>in</strong>istry-GOI, Environment Division-BMC,<br />

Environment Section-MMRDA.<br />

♦An action plan for next few years must be chalked out<br />

“Noth<strong>in</strong>g is impossible for <strong>Mumbai</strong>kars”, this has reflected <strong>in</strong> the demonstrative project of Powai Lake. We have<br />

succeeded <strong>in</strong> sav<strong>in</strong>g Powai Lake. We can save our ‘Mithi Nadi’.<br />
