Only a small entry with some vendors worried about the current lack of keep, but
those that did send were fully rewarded with excellent prices particularly for the
ewes. Wilton Sheep Fair along with Salisbury Market is now an authorised central
point recording centre (CPRC) and our first experience of reading the tags was
generally positive, although it will obviously create a lot of extra work and
require a great deal of co-operation from our vendors. It should be remembered
that all sheep tagged with full EID have to be read so it helps the workload if only
the ewe lambs are tagged with full EID and you use the electronic slaughter tags
for store lambs. With the very strong cull trade underpinning the prices for the
older ewes it is also very important that we have the correct food chain
information.

A marvellous trade throughout and many more could have been sold and buyers
requirements still not fulfilled. K & B Harvey’s Suffolk x 4 and 6-teeth ewes from
the Isle of Wight topping the section at £113.50 with Brian Garrett’s full mouth
Suffolks at £111, Martin Carr’s Mule full mouth to £79.

nice pen of Suffolk x Scotch Half Breds from Jim Bracey. No strong Suffolk x Mules

Generally speaking a very difficult trade with very few customers present.
Ashton Selway saw the top price of the day with his Charollais at 450 gns. Adrian
Dufosee’s 10 Texels sold to 395 gns and Lewis Knight’s smart Hampshire Down
Shearling made 400 gns. K & K Manning had a Suffolk ram lamb at 350 gns, whilst
Cissbury Farms Poll Dorset lamb made 150 gns. We hope for better things in
September.
