SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Wear full protective clothing and selfcontained<br />

breathing apparatus. Water solution of sulfamic acid is strongly<br />

acidic. Move containers from fire area if possible. Cool containers exposed<br />

to flames with water from side until well after fire is out.<br />

UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: May release sulfur dioxide, sulfur<br />

trioxide, and ammonia gas if involved in fire<br />

SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA<br />

THRESHOLD LIMIT VALUE: To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical,<br />

and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated.<br />

ACUTE EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE: Harmful if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed<br />

through skin. Material is extremely destructive to tissue of the mucus<br />

membranes and upper respiratory tract, eyes and skin. Inhalation may be fatal<br />

as a result of spasm, inflammation and edema of the larynx and bronchi,<br />

chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. Corrosive. Causes burns.<br />

SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE MAY INCLUDE: Burning sensation, coughing, wheezing,<br />

laryngitis, shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting.<br />

IN CASE OF EXPOSURE: EYES AND SKIN: Rinse immediately with plenty of water.<br />

Remove contaminated clothing, and shoes immediately. Insure adequate flushing<br />

of the eyes by separating the eyelids with fingers. If INHALED, remove to


fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration. If breathing is<br />

difficult give oxygen.<br />

If SWALLOWED, washout mouth with water proved person is conscious. Provided<br />

the patient is conscious the acid can be diluted immediately by drinking<br />

water or milk. If vomiting persists, administer fluids repeatedly.<br />

SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IN THE EVENT OF ANY ACCIDENTAL EXPOSURE TO THIS<br />

PRODUCT.<br />

SECTION VI - REACTIVITY DATA<br />

STABILITY: Stable at room temperature. At elevated temperatures, concentrate<br />

sulfamic aqueous solution hydrolyzed rapidly generate heat and steam.<br />

INCOMPATIBILITY (MATERIALS TO AVOID): Chlorine, potassium chlorate, nitric<br />

acid, metal sulfides, nitrates and nitrites, bases and bromine gas.<br />

Strong oxidizing agents and strong bases.<br />

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Thermal decomposition products may include<br />

toxic and corrosive fumes of ammonia, and toxic oxides of nitrogen and sulfur.<br />

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur under normal temperatures and<br />

pressures.<br />

CONDITIONS TO AVOID: May accumulate in tanks and hopper cars. May ignite<br />

combustibles wood, paper, oil, etc.)<br />

SECTION VII - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES<br />

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED: Evacuate area.<br />

Stop leak if it can be done without risk. Wear self-contained breathing<br />

apparatus, rubber boots, and heavy rubber gloves. Cover with dry lime or soda<br />

ash, pick up, keep in a closed container and hold for waste disposal.<br />

Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.<br />

WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD: Dissolve or mix the material with a combustible<br />

solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and<br />

scrubber. Follow all local, state, and federal regulations.<br />

SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION<br />

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION (SPECIFY TYPE): Use NIOSH approved respiratory<br />

protection for dust and fumes.<br />

VENTILATION: Provide local exhaust or general dilution ventilation system.<br />

PROTECTIVE GLOVES: Impervious to prevent skin contact.<br />

EYE PROTECTION: Chemical splash goggles or face shield.<br />

OTHER PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Protective (impervious) clothing and equipment<br />

to prevent any possible skin contact.<br />

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORING: Keep containers closed.<br />

Avoid getting on skin or in eyes when handling product. Should be stored in a<br />

cool and dry place. Do not store with cyanides, sulfides, chlorides,


hypochlorous acid or hypochlorites. In accordance with good practices of<br />

personal cleanliness and hygiene, handle with due care and avoid unnecessary<br />

contact with this product.<br />
