at close range
Baby changing facilities
There are changing facilities next to the ticket office, inside the horse
museum, near the bistro of the children’s and horse park, at the
kiosks nearby the elephant and ape house and also in the restaurant.
Children’s push chairs and wagons
are available free of charge resp. for value at the ticket office.
The walk of the penguins
During summertime the penguins daily leave their enclosure for a
walk on the visitor paths at 2 p.m., during wintertime only on
Saturdays and Sundays. The walk might be cancelled due to hot
weather, breeding season or moult. Here for we kindly ask you for
your understanding. Please note the penguins notice board.

Dogs allowed
You are allowed to bring your dog, keeping it on a short leash. The
dog may not enter the horse museum, the petting zoo, the tropical
greenhouse or any accessible animal houses. You will find water
dishes for your dog at most of the animal houses. Please never leave
your dog unattended due to the safety of the other visitors.
Facilities for handicapped people
You can find ramps suitable for wheelchair access in all areas of the
zoo. There is an elevator to access the upper floor of the aquarium.
Facilities for disabled people can be found next to the ticket office,
inside the horse museum, near the bistro of the children’s and horse
park, inside the toilet building behind the elephant house as well as
in the restaurant.
Food and drinks
In summertime the cafeteria and the bistro in the children’s and
horse park open from 9 a.m., the kiosks from 10 a.m. and the
restaurant from 11 a.m. They all remain open until the park closes.
In wintertime the bistro and the kiosks remain closed.
Lavatories
can be found next to the ticket office, inside the horse museum, at the
bistro in the children’s and horse park, inside the robbenhaven, at the
kiosks nearby the elephant and ape house as well as in the restaurant.
Photography in the zoo
Of course you are allowed to take pictures during your visit to the zoo.
If you like, you may also publicize your photographs on private
websites and photo communities as long as you name the Allwetterzoo
and add the link of our website
www.allwetterzoo.de.
Picnic areas
Throughout the zoo grounds there are a
various number of tables and benches ready
to use for your picnic. You may also utilize
the tables and benches nearby the kiosks.
Wheelchairs
are available free of charge at the ticket office.
Pet’s Corner
In the children’s and horse park behind the horse museum there is
an area for our youngest visitors. Children get the chance to
experience sheep, goats, chicken and guinea pigs at a close range.
Boundless enclosures
In some of the zoo areas you can really experience animals
close-up, in other areas there are hardly any boarders. In this sense
you may feel free to pet the domestic horses and the
giant-donkeys or enter the accessible aviary, where neither glass
nor bars separate you from the big parrots. In our tropical
greenhouse you can experience walking in the middle of the
habitat of numerous birds.
Thanks to a huge glass pane you are able to encounter the
amurtigers face to face, just like the slender-tailed meerkats. There
is a bulletproof glass installed in front of the outdoor plant of the
gorillas and orangutans, which allows a great and close
observation of the animals. In the compound of the wading birds
you can hang out in a beach chair and bird pied avocets and other
waders during low and high tide. Besides all these, there are loads
of other, mostly idyllic places in our zoo where you can linger and
observe our animals “boundlessly”.
Accessible ape enclosures
Our visitor path leads you directly through the middle of the
outdoor plant of our ring-tailed lemurs and guerezas. Most
probably this is the most nearest you will ever come to these
African apes! Please do not carry
any comestibles on you while
crossing the ape enclosures. The
apes tend to steal “feed” or
even baby bottles from pockets
and push-chairs. Please do not
smoke nor try to touch the
animals. Please keep within the
marked paths. This way the apes
continue feeling safe and many
other visitors will be able to
enjoy this amazing experience in
the future.

zoo visitors of the Allwetterzoo.

Opening times
The animal houses are open daily from 9 a.m.
They close from April to September at 6:30 p.m.,
in March and October at 5:30 p.m.
and from November to February at 4:30 p.m.
The zoo must be left half an hour after the closing of the
animal houses.
The horse museum
is open daily from 9 a.m. It closes at the same time as the
animal houses.
In the horse museum you can find an exciting exhibition on
the natural and cultural history of the horse in Westphalia.
On several Sundays throughout
the whole year performances
with real horses take place in
the Arena Hippomaxx. Please
note our notice boards.
The Robbenhaven
is open daily from 10 a.m. The
closing times are the same as from
the animal houses.

Do not feed animals even if begging for food!
Many of the zoo inhabitants are food sensitive,
wrong food can be life threatening for them.
Feedings supervised by our keepers are the exception,
whereby food will be provided.

Elephant Feeding
Visitors are allowed to feed the elephants under supervision. Fruits
and vegetables will be provided by the keepers. Please note the
notice boards in and outside the elephant house.
Lori Feeding by visitors
The Loris, little multi-colored parrots, lives in an accessible aviary
inside the elephant house, where they can daily be fed with nectar.
Penguin Feeding by visitors
Children and adults are invited to feed the penguins with herrings.
