<strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> at the <strong>Michael</strong>-<strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Russell</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> Community Center is a safe, exciting, and transformative<br />

experience for children. We are proud to be continually rated one of the top summer camps in Miami-<br />

Dade County. We are an inclusive <strong>Jewish</strong> community that celebrates diversity and a place where children<br />

of all backgrounds can grow, learn, deepen their connections to one another, and enhance their <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

From day one, our staff and counselors create an environment of magical and unforgettable experiences<br />

for all campers. Every day offers new adventures, friendship, and memories. From swimming and sports,<br />

to music, drama, and art, <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> will ensure that your camper has endless opportunities to explore<br />

While summer camp is all about fun, your camper’s safety is our first priority. <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> is led by a team<br />

of experienced professionals, many of whom return summer after summer. Our staff members are carefully<br />

screened and committed to enriching camper’s lives. <strong>All</strong> of our staff participates in training prior to the start<br />

of camp. Experienced educators tailor our camp programs and activities to each group’s<br />

Academy <strong>Camp</strong>s have a small counselor to camper ratio. Instructional swim, art, music, sports, nature and play are<br />

part of your preschooler’s camp day. <strong>Camp</strong>ers thrive in a nurturing, enthusiastic, supportive and structured environment.<br />

Special attention is given to the social growth and emotional development of each camper.<br />

Making friends, instilling <strong>Jewish</strong> identity, and creating a lifetime of memories are also intermingled in your camper’s day.<br />

Swim Academy Half Day<br />

Age 30 – 40 months (must be potty trained)<br />

Your First-Time <strong>Camp</strong>er will experience:<br />

•Field Trip 1x/per session<br />

•One hour of instructional swim daily<br />

focusing on survival skills and water safety<br />

•One hour will be spent each day with the<br />

Academy Educator for games and activities focusing on<br />

gross motor skills and fine motor coordination. <strong>Camp</strong>ers<br />

will also participate in art, little sports, and story time<br />

• Pick-up at 12:30 pm after lunch<br />

Variety <strong>Camp</strong> is summer camp like you remember – filled with a little bit of everything and a whole lot of fun!<br />

Each day of camp brings its own excitement. <strong>Jewish</strong> traditions, archim (values), and ruach (spirit) are incorporated into<br />

every camp day. <strong>All</strong> campers will participate in a Kabbalat Shabbat Celebration and our Friday Spirit event.<br />

Nitzanim (Little buddies) - Must be 3 years old by 6/18/2012<br />

Specialty <strong>Camp</strong>s are all about learning. Whether your camper would like to learn a new skill or just enjoy an<br />

already found hobby, our Specialty <strong>Camp</strong>s are a fun and enriching experience for children of all ages. A minimum of two<br />

periods a day will be devoted to learning skills taught by professionals. <strong>Camp</strong>ers attending Speciality <strong>Camp</strong>s will also<br />

enjoy the variety of activities listed on page 2.<br />

Junior Aquatics – Entering Grades 1 & 2<br />

Summer Shlichim (Emissaries)<br />

Each year, we have guests from Israel - Summer Shlichim<br />

who are talented, professional young people who have<br />

completed their army or national service and are experienced<br />

in areas of formal and informal education as counselors,<br />

teachers, youth, or childcare workers.<br />

They share their culture, language, and ruach (spirit) with<br />

our campers. Families can share this international experience<br />

by extending home hospitality. Please contact Dror<br />

Premier <strong>Camp</strong>s • Ages K - Grade 8<br />

Premier <strong>Camp</strong>s are programs created around one theme and are devoted to improving skills and knowledge.<br />

Learning from professionals will help improve your camper’s technique and performance. <strong>Jewish</strong> principles such as<br />

Avodat Tzevet (teamwork) are emphasized in all our activities. <strong>Camp</strong>ers attending Premier camps will also enjoy the<br />

variety of activities listed on page 2.<br />

T’Nuah (Dance)<br />

Tiny T’Nuah: Entering Grades K & 1<br />

“So you think you can dance”<br />

•Extended Trip Session II: New York–Off to the Big APPLE to<br />

enjoy a Broadway show, sightseeing and much more. Will<br />

participate in a master class taught by Broadway performers<br />

assigned to a specific group<br />

•Sessions on leadership skills, decision making, college<br />

information, and many more topics will be explored<br />

•The Madatzim program requires an interview<br />

and letter of recommendation prior to registration.<br />

Koach – Special Needs – Entering K-8<br />

This program provides an educational, creative, socially<br />

and emotionally safe environment for children and teens<br />

with special needs.<br />

Eligible campers are mainstreamed in our Variety <strong>Camp</strong>s,<br />

participating in all of the same activities, while being buddied<br />

with a shadow.<br />

In order to ensure a positive experience, this unique program<br />

requires an intake application prior to acceptance.<br />

This program is not subject to sibling discount.<br />

Ometz Summer Work Experience<br />

Age 15 +<br />

hands-on experiences is created for<br />

each camper, with the goal of instilling<br />

confidence, developing social<br />

and life skills, increasing attention span and improving fine<br />

and gross motor abilities.<br />

music, karate, special events and more.<br />

As part of their work experience, participants train at local<br />

businesses such as retail stores and/or restaurants.<br />

June 25–August 3: 6 weeks only - $2,710<br />

Policies & Procedures<br />

JCC Maccabi Games, Memphis, TN<br />

& Houston, TX – Ages 13-16<br />

Maccabi Games is a world famous<br />

Olympic style event which provide<br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> youth with cultural as well as<br />

athletic events. The JCC Maccabi Games celebrates 25<br />

years of fun, sportsmanship and athletic competition. Team<br />

NMB will consist of boys and girls competing in basketball,<br />

flag football, dance, soccer, and tennis. Athletes will train for<br />

three weeks at the MAR-JCC prior to their competition in<br />

Memphis and Houston. The games strengthen a personal<br />

connection with Judaism, continuing the historic sports<br />

tradition passed on from generation to generation.<br />

Ages 14-17<br />

JCC Maccabi Artsfest is an arts experience for<br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> teens. It features dynamic workshops,<br />

exhibitions, performances, community service<br />

and social activities while strengthening their<br />

bonds to their <strong>Jewish</strong> heritage and to Israel.<br />

Teens will be working closely with artists in visual arts,<br />

instrumental music, vocal music theater, dance, creative<br />

writing, photography, culinary arts and more.<br />

2012 MAR-JCC CAMP SOL TAPLIN POLICIES & PROCEDURES<br />

Eligibility for Enrollment:<br />

1. Enrolling families must have a current membership in good standing with<br />

the <strong>Michael</strong>-<strong>Ann</strong> <strong>Russell</strong> <strong>Jewish</strong> Community Center (MAR-JCC) throughout<br />

the entire camp season. Membership dues and other MAR-JCC financial<br />

obligations must be current at time of registration.<br />

2. <strong>All</strong> campers must be able to use the bathroom independently by the first<br />

day of camp.<br />

Registration:<br />

1. Each registration form must be accompanied by the following:<br />

a. Membership Fast Pass, which confirms that your membership is<br />

current and that you are current with your financial obligations,<br />

is available in the Membership office.<br />

b. First camp payment, including $250 non refundable deposit per<br />

camper.<br />

2. <strong>All</strong> enrollments are subject to space availability. You will be notified if you<br />

have selected a camp in which capacity has been reached. A wait list for<br />

each camp will be established. Families on the wait list will be notified<br />

if/when space becomes available. We reserve the right to cancel any<br />

camp due to lack of enrollment.<br />

3. <strong>All</strong> buddy requests should be made on the registration form. Every effort<br />

is made to accommodate one request per camper, however requests cannot<br />

be guaranteed. Please note that some camps are grouped by ability<br />

and skill level.<br />

4. A 10% sibling discount is applied and deducted from the lower camp fee.<br />

Discount also applies to transportation and Kid Konnection fees. Not<br />

applicable for Maccabi programs.<br />

5. Payments can be made in installments through May 11, 2012. Final payment<br />

of camp fees is due no later than May 11, 2012. Registration forms<br />

turned in after May 11, 2012 must be paid in full at time of registration.<br />

6. Acceptable forms of payment include: check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover,<br />

American Express and cash.<br />

7. There will be a $30 charge for each NSF check or returned EFT debit.<br />

There will be a $10 charge for each declined credit card transaction.<br />

Special Service:<br />

In the event our staff sees your camper is having difficulty within the structure<br />

we provide, we reserve the right to have our behavioral specialist conduct an<br />

observation and oversee the implementation of behavior modification programs<br />

with staff and your camper. If, after the implementation of these procedures,<br />

your camper continues to experience difficulty, we may recommend<br />

that your camper participate in a shadow program, which we provide in cooperation<br />

with the Or Gadol Department for an additional fee.<br />

Financial Assistance:<br />

1. Qualifying families who need to apply for financial assistance must submit<br />

an application by April 2, 2012.<br />

2. Financial assistance applications are available upon request from Galit<br />

Shemesh, Social Worker (305) 932-4200 ext. 142. Limited funds are available.<br />

Scholarship requests will be reviewed on a first-come, first-serve<br />

basis. Please submit applications as early as possible.<br />

3. <strong>All</strong> inquiries and financial assistance applications are kept confidential.<br />

Changes and Additions:<br />

1. In order to request a change, a drop/add form must be completed in the<br />

Membership office.<br />

2. Changes and additions are subject to space availability.<br />

3. A $75 change fee is applied for each drop/add per child.<br />

Refund & Cancellation Policy:<br />

1. Refund requests must be made in writing to the Executive Director prior<br />

to May 11, 2012.<br />

2. <strong>All</strong> refunds will be subject to a $75 processing fee and a $250 non refundable<br />

registration fee per child.<br />

3. <strong>Camp</strong> fees are NON REFUNDABLE after May 11, 2012, including, but not<br />

limited to absences, withdrawals, inclement weather or in the event a<br />

camper is asked to leave camp for disciplinary reasons.<br />

4. MAR-JCC Membership is NON REFUNDABLE.<br />

<strong>Camp</strong> Communication:<br />

1. <strong>All</strong> <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> communications will be provided through email. It is<br />

the responsibility of each parent/guardian to regularly check email for pertinent<br />

camp information.<br />

2. If your email address changes, it is your responsibility to provide any<br />

changes to the Membership office and the <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> staff.<br />

Accident Form/Medications:<br />

1. I understand that if medical forms are not completed by the child(ren)’s<br />

physician (dated after August 18, 2011, and turned into the Membership<br />

office prior to June 1, 2012, the MAR-JCC has the right to refuse entry to<br />

camp with no refund.<br />

2. <strong>All</strong> medications must be clearly indicated on the health form and on applicable<br />

medication forms. <strong>All</strong> medications will be maintained in the<br />

camp’s infirmary and dispensed by the <strong>Camp</strong> Medic with written permission<br />

from the parent/guardian.<br />

3. A <strong>Camp</strong> Medic will staff the camp infirmary from 9AM-4PM.<br />

4. The cost of accident insurance is included in your child’s camp fee, as described<br />

herein. The accident insurance plan is a supplemental policy to<br />

the current policy that covers the camper and will cover medical expenses<br />

that the camper’s personal policy does not pay (i.e., deductibles<br />

and percentages not included in the policy (80%-20% plans) up to<br />

$10,000 per incident. If the camper is not already covered by a health insurance<br />

plan, the camp policy will pay 100% after proof of non-insurance<br />

is supplied to our carrier, up to $10,000 per incident, except for a $75 deductible<br />

per accident. NOTE: Parent/guardian is responsible for payment<br />

of all medical expenses incurred. Call Ruthie Williams-Cass at 305-932-<br />

4200 x133, to submit a claim.<br />

5. The health history provided to the camp of my child(ren) is correct so far<br />

as I know, and the child(ren) that I have registered have permission to<br />

engage in all prescribed camp activities, except as noted by the examining<br />

physician and myself.<br />

6. I understand that the MAR-JCC does not assume responsibility for any injury.<br />

In case of medical emergency, I hereby give permission to the physician,<br />

selected by the MAR-JCC, to secure proper treatment for my<br />

child(ren) and I assume responsibility for all fees. I also understand that<br />

the MAR-JCC will offer assistance with filing the claim, but assumes no<br />

responsibility for the fees or payment from the insurance company.<br />

Food Policy:<br />

1. <strong>All</strong> lunches and snacks served at <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> (including daily field<br />

trips) are glatt kosher.<br />

2. In keeping with MAR-JCC’s kashrut (dietary laws) policy, no food or<br />

snacks may be sent from home.<br />

3. Ice water is provided throughout the day.<br />

4. Extended trip meals are kosher style. Glatt kosher meals are available<br />

upon prior request.<br />

Inclement Weather:<br />

1. <strong>All</strong> outdoor activities and field trips are suspended during inclement<br />

weather.<br />

2. Alternate indoor activities will be offered.<br />

3. There are no refunds due to inclement weather.<br />

4. Carpool may be delayed due to inclement weather.<br />

5. <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> will close following the National Hurricane Center warning<br />

for our area.<br />

Field Trip Policy:<br />

Should the camper be unwilling, unable or chooses to forgo the designated<br />

field trip, alternate accommodations are not available.<br />

General Policies:<br />

1. <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> and MAR-JCC are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.<br />

2. I hereby authorize <strong>Camp</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> <strong>Taplin</strong> and MAR-JCC to include my<br />

child(ren)’s photograph, voice, or other likeness in photographs, videos,<br />

printed or recorded material, including but not limited to, use on the Internet<br />

and MAR-JCC website. I understand further that I will not have<br />

any opportunity to approve or review the finished product that may be<br />

used in conjunction therewith or the use to which it may be applied.<br />

are not received by due date, the MAR-JCC reserves the right to<br />
