STAFF INSURANCE COVERAGES<br />
HEALTH INSURANCE<br />
The <strong>School</strong> Board shall contract with a health care provider for health, hospitalization, and<br />
life insurance benefits for its eligible employees, retirees, and/or their spouses and children.<br />
The Board may pay any portion of an employee, dependent, spouse, or retiree's premium<br />
it so designates.<br />
Employees hired on July 1, 2001 or thereafter must work a minimum of five (5) consecutive<br />
years immediately preceding their retirement in order to be eligible for the <strong>School</strong> Board to<br />
pay a portion of their health insurance premiums and provide a percentage of the employer<br />
paid (1.5 x salary) life insurance benefits. The portion of health insurance premiums paid<br />
and percentage of employer paid (1.5 x salary) life insurance benefits provided for a<br />
qualified retiree shall be dependent on the number of consecutive years of employment<br />
with the <strong>East</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> <strong>Parish</strong> <strong>School</strong> Board. After five (5) years of continuous service,<br />
the employee contribution percentage of the employer portion for health insurance<br />
premium s would decline by twenty percent (20%) with each additional year of service until<br />
ten (10) years of service credit is attained with a subsequent increase in the Board’s share<br />
by twenty percent (20%) each year. After five (5) years of continuous service the employer<br />
paid (1.5 x salary) percentage of life insurance benefits provided would increase by twenty<br />
percent (20%) each additional year of service until ten (10) years of service credit is<br />
attained, while years one through five (1-5) provide a seven thousand five hundred dollar<br />
($7,500.00) benefit.<br />
Employees hired on July 2, 2002 or thereafter shall be limited to employer paid (1.5 x<br />
salary) life insurance benefits of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00).<br />
WORKERS' COMPENSATION<br />
The <strong>East</strong> <strong>Baton</strong> <strong>Rouge</strong> <strong>Parish</strong> <strong>School</strong> Board shall authorize and direct the Superintendent<br />
to ensure workers' compensation coverage for its employees through the management of a<br />
self-insurance program. Should a teacher become injured while on duty, the teacher shall<br />
be entitled to receive, at his/her option, workers' compensation benefits prescribed under<br />
state workers' compensation laws and/or appropriate sick leave benefits. In no case,<br />
however, shall the total amount of combined benefits received exceed the total amount of<br />
regular salary the teacher was receiving at the time of injury.<br />
Should an accident occur to an employee while in the course of his/her duties, a detailed<br />
report shall be submitted by the employee's supervisor to the Superintendent or designee<br />
within five (5) days of the accident, in accordance with procedures outlined in the Board's<br />
Risk Management Plan. Additional written commentary about the accident may also be<br />
required from the employee's supervisor. Periodic medical exams and subsequent reports<br />
verifying prolonged disability may be required as needed.<br />
