Supervised clinical placements focused on individual and group therapy as well as<br />
diagnostic, cognitive, and personality assessment. Presenting problems of patients<br />
included: people with severe mental illness (schizophrenia spectrum disorders,<br />
bipolar disorder, and mood disorder), posttraumatic stress disorder, adjustment<br />
disorders, and personality disorders. Target populations included adults and<br />
adolescents and treatment settings included inpatient, outpatient mental health,<br />
state prison, college counseling center, and Veteran’s Administration Medical<br />
Center.<br />
Placements included work with specialized unit for Borderline Personality<br />
Disorder and general unit comprised of long-term psychiatric patients. Conducted<br />
individual therapy focused on distress management and coping. Co-facilitated<br />
Emotional Coping (Borderline & General Unit) and Core Beliefs groups.<br />
Conducted assessments of intellectual functioning, personality, and differential<br />
diagnosis and wrote integrative reports. Attended multidisciplinary treatment<br />
team and community meetings. Developed applied behavioral treatment plan and<br />
consulted with nursing staff. Received training in personal safety and safely<br />
neutralizing aggressive patients. Weekly supervision was in both individual and<br />
group format with feedback of taped sessions.<br />
