On Par With Bittersweet
H
ey guys, Most of you
were at the meeting
when President Dan read the
contents of my resignation
letter addressed to him and
several BOD members. Since
that time I have received
many very kind letters and well wishes for the
future. These letters included one from Jack
Martin and he asked me if I’d be willing to write
something for the bulletin. Sooooo, here goes.
Life is full of choices and sometimes the
choices are not the ones we want to make but the
ones we have to make no matter how difficult, and
believe me, this one has been heart wrenching.
I have had a wonderful time these last four
years and the best part is having been able to use
my God given talent to make music with YOU,
my Brothers in harmony. I’ve also had the
satisfaction of seeing a fledgling small group of
singers grow in numbers and musicality to become
a seasoned, self-sustaining, respected chapter of
the Barbershop Harmony Society. You are an
outstanding group of men and I consider myself
fortunate to have been associated with and in
service with each of you. I thank you for your
confidence, cooperation and support as we served
and sang together.
Directors Jack Martin, Rich Pilch and
Steve Dorn have offered each man a Barbershop
singing education that serves well as the foundation
for the craft. In January, Luke Lindsay took
over the directing baton and if the last four months
are any indicator, NGBS is truly on its way to
doing great things with the best being yet to come.
Tuesday nights are bittersweet for me and I
often think about what you are probably doing.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss being there but
then I’m reminded of the reasons I had to make my
decision.
To each of you I wish all the best, with
the hope that the chorus continues to grow and
flourish and that each of you continues to enjoy
all that barbershop singing has to offer.
