Volleyball
2010–2011 Season Outlook
Sheridan College Volleyball Team has high
expectations for the 2010 Season. The Generals return
seven players who will be an intricate part of the
team’s success this year. The Generals will have seven
new faces to complete the
General family. The squad’s
goals include teamwork,
commitment, dedication, and
education. The Generals’ focus
is to bring the tradition and
success of Sheridan College
Volleyball back to the dome.
The Generals return five
starters from the 2009 Season
including one All-Conference
Selection and four individuals
who were recognized on the
national level. De-Ann Smith,
5’11 middle blocker, from St.
James, Barbados played in 85
games during the 2009 Season.
Smith received WCCAC
Honorable Mention and
finished 21st in the nation with
blocks. Smith averaged 1.129
blocks per game last season.
Nikita Wickham, 6’1 middle blocker, from St. Thomas,
Barbados played in 79 games during the 2009 Season.
Wickham finished 59th in the nation with blocks
averaging .886 blocks per game last season. Both Smith
and Wickham’s contribution in the middle will be one
of the keys for success this year. Tajana Santiago, 5’7
setter, from Hauula, Hawaii played in 94 games during
the 2009 season. Santiago averaged 6.138 assists per game
finishing 50th in the nation with assists. Santiago will
have high expectations as the Generals setter, as well as,
an offensive threat on the front row. Abeje Carrington,
6’0 rightside hitter, from St. George, Barbados played in
48 games during the 2009 season. Carrington’s strength
is her intelligence blocking the opponent’s strongest
offensive threats. Candace Tufaga, 5’9 outside/rightside
hitter, from Kahuku, Hawaii played in 78 games finishing
42nd in the nation with service aces averaging .449 per
game. The remaining two members of the SC Generals saw
a significant amount of court time even starting at times
throughout the season. Rebecca Nuniez, 5’3 Libero, from
Honoka’a, Hawaii played in 67 games during the 2009
Season. Nuniez will vie for time as a defensive specialist
for her defensive and serve
receive skills. Gabrielle Kelly
will complete the returning
class, 5’6 Libero/Setter, from
Gillette, WY who played in 36
games during the 2009 Season.
Kelly’s contribution as a setter
last season will focus more
defensively this year.
Seven new signees complete
the General roster from
Wyoming, Montana, and
Hawaii. Andrea Hespen, 6’2
middle/rightside hitter, from
Gillette, Wyoming transfers
from Northern University as
a Redshirt Freshman. Heather
Kaikauana, 5’7 outside hitter/
defensive specialist, from Hilo,
Hawaii transfers from the
University of Hilo. Wyoming
freshman include Kayla Ando,
5’6 Setter, from Powell, Katy Siroky, 6’0 outside hitter,
from Dayton, and Lacey Smith, 5’9 redshirt outside
hitter, from Hulett. Kylinn Brendon, 6’0 middle/
rightside hitter, from Billings and Reyna Acosta, 5’4
Libero, from Pearl City, Hawaii will complete the
freshman class this year.
The SC Generals have spent a tremendous amount
of time in the preseason on “family.” We believe that
our team needs be a reflection of our own family values.
We are “one” and our dedication/commitment will hold
the team accountable for our entire team’s success. Our
team has been active in the community volunteering at
the Big West Arts Festival and Habitat for Humanity
during the preseason. Our team is an extremely tight
group and I hope that you will invest your time in our
family. We look forward to seeing you in the Dome!
SHERIDAN GENERALS
Rodeo
2010–2011 Season Outlook
The 2010-2011 Sheridan
College Rodeo Team is
looking strong for this year.
There are eight returning
sophomores, and 19 incoming
freshman.
The team has a lot of
talent this year; many
returning sophomores have
been competing in rodeos
all summer. They are ready
to work hard both in the
classroom and in the arena.
These eight sophomores
have the talent to qualify for the CNFR, and with their
freshman jitters out of the way they will be ready to
go this year.
The incoming freshmen class has a lot of talent as
well, with over half of them qualifying for the National
High School Finals last year.
This group of freshmen
has displayed all year long
their heart and desire to be
successful in the classroom
and the arena. There are a
couple of state champion
cowboys and cowgirls as well
as many reserve and runner-up
champions. I feel that among
these freshmen are many who
can and will qualify for the
CNFR this year.
Overall, the year looks to
be very promising with returning talent and the
new talent coming in, we are ready to work hard
and put the tradition of Sheridan College Rodeo
back at the top.
– Coach Marc Gilkerson
Marc Gilkerson
Head Coach
Marc Gilkerson
grew up and graduated
high school in Hobson,
Montana. Marc was
competitive in high
school sports such as
rodeo, football, track,
baseball and wrestling.
He learned at an early
age that hard work
and practice will pay
off in the end. This is the kind of philosophy Marc has used
his entire life and has resulted in his qualification to the
College National Finals Rodeo in Bareback Riding and
Mountain States Circuit Finals in Bareback Riding. Marc
also was nominated to many different amateur association
finals as a Bullfighter, and he also competed at those finals
in Bareback Riding.
Marc trained working cow horses, reining horses,
cutting horses and a few team roping horses for a number
of years in Arizona. With hard work, dedication and love
of competition, Marc qualified for the AQHA world show
in the Amateur Working Cow Horse, he split 3rd and
4th that year and was the only finalist not having a horse
trainer riding his horse for him.
Marc came back to Wyoming, the state that he loves,
and is hard at work recruiting young men and women who
are dedicated to their education and the sport of rodeo.
He brings with him the desire to see the Sheridan College
Rodeo program be successful again.
Lacey Hewitt
Assistant Coach
Lacey Hewitt was
raised in Newell,
South Dakota. She has
been competing in the
arena for as long as she
can remember. Lacey
competes in breakaway
roping, goat tying, and
team roping. She was
a four time qualifier to
the 4-H finals and High School finals in South Dakota in
goat tying and breakaway roping. Lacey also qualified for
the High School National Finals rodeo in goat tying and
breakaway roping, and has competed and qualified for
the Northwest Ranch Cowboys Association in goat tying
where she won in 2008. Lacey is currently serving a two
year term as goat tying director for that association.
Lacey is majoring in Elementary Education at Sheridan
College and Chadron State University, with a minor in
Early Childhood. Lacey competed on the Sheridan College
Rodeo Team for four years and is very thankful to be able
to stay involved with the college and the rodeo atmosphere
by being the assistant coach. Lacey has recently received
her Coaching certificate through Sheridan College as well.
“I am excited to be the assistant rodeo coach because I
have always enjoyed working with students and love to
see people succeed. It has always been a dream of mine
to coach, and I am hoping to have a team at the CNFR in
June,” said coach Lacey Hewitt.
SHERIDAN GENERALS
2010–2011 Season Outlook
The 2010-11 Sheridan College Generals will look to
improve on the tradition that has become Generals
Basketball. Sheridan will only return four players from
a team that went 27-7 and made their
second straight Region IX Final Four
and was one win away from reaching
the national tournament in Hutchinson,
KS. Sheridan will rely heavily on
its sophomores for leadership and
experience as only three of the four
returners have game experience being
that one took a redshirt in 2009-2010.
Jarrell Crayton (6’7, PF, Bellevue, NE)
started all 34 games for the Generals and
was the team’s third leading scorer at 11
points per game and the team’s second
leading rebounder at six rebounds per
game. For his performance last year
Jarrell was named 1st Team All-Conference. Kendrick
Morse (5’7, PG, Richton Park, IL) started 33 of the 34
games he played in and was one of the best in the region
in assists per game averaging four per game. Kendrick also
posted a three to one assist to turnover ratio and averaged
eight points per game. Omar McDade (6’2, PG, Logan, UT)
played in 29 of the 34 games last season due to an injury
that kept him out of the first five games of the year. Omar
averaged six points a game and dished out an average of
2.5 assists per game. Rage Geringer (5’11, SG, Glendo, WY)
rounds out the list of returners for the Generals in 2010-
2011. Rage redshirted last year and will look to step in
and make an immediate impact on the program due to his
great work ethic and tremendous outside shooting ability.
The Generals will bring in eight new recruits this year
that will need to be ready to make an impact as soon as
they arrive on campus if the Generals have intentions
to compete for a Region IX championship. Inside the
Generals will rely on Lamont Prosser, a 6-8, 225-pound
center from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Prosser averaged 16.8
points, 11.2 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game at Charis
Prep last season. The Generals will have great height
and versatility at the forward spots highlighted by five
incoming freshman. Jermaine Lippert, a 6’8, 230-pound
forward from Munich, Germany averaged 23 points, 11.5
rebounds, and 2.5 steals a game in route to leading his
team to a quarterfinal appearance in the post season.
Rolands Narkis, a 6’7, 210-pounder from Broceni, Latvia
averaged 15 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
In his post season he jumped those averages to 18 points,
6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3 blocks. Shelton Black
from Compton HS, Los Angeles, CA averaged ten points
26
and ten rebounds per game as a senior. Wyoming’s own
Robert Heyer, a 6’5, 200 pound forward from Worland
averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three
steals per game as a senior. Heyer is a
two time All-State selection. Khion
Sankey from Stockton, CA rounds out
this talented group of forwards that
can play on the perimeter and also
bang down low on the block. Sankey
averaged 14.6 points, eight rebounds,
2.8 steals and three assists in leading
his team to a 30-5 record, a Northern
California Championship and a second
place finish in all of California (CIF).
Sheridan College has brought in
some very talented guards from around
the world for this year as well. Matt
Glover, a 6-4, 190-pound guard from
Tustin, California, averaged 18.6 points, 6.1 assists and
7.5 rebounds while leading his team to a 20-7 record.
Glover was selected All-League First Team. As well as
All-Orange County Second Team and All-CIF Second
Team. Johannes Kriegereit, a 6-2, 175 pound point
guard from Bayern, Germany averaged 19.4 points per
game. Johannes has been selected one of the top 40
players in Germany and brings a wealth of experience
from international play. Malachi Roberts rounds out
the incoming freshman. This 6-5, 190 pound wing from
East Wenatchee, WA led his league in scoring at 24.6
points per game. Along with that, Roberts averaged 7.8
rebounds, five blocks, three assists, and three steals a
game on his way to becoming 1st team All-Conference.
The 2009-10 Sheridan College Generals compiled a
record of 27-7. Last year’s Generals advanced to the
championship game Region IX Tournament. For their
efforts many Sheridan College Athletes were honored
with awards. JR Cadot was named Third Team All-
American, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-
Conference. Antoine Proctor was named First Team
All-Region. Jarrell Crayton was named First Team
All-Conference, and Idris Lasisi was named to the All-
Defensive First Team for Region IX.
Five players from last year’s squad moved on to play
at the next level including: JR Cadot (Texas Christian
University, TCU), Antoine Proctor (Sacramento State
University), Idris Lasisi (University of Montana), Steven
Ivory Jr. (Texas A & M International), Bryen Pyles
(Mayville State University), and Charlton Wilson (East
Central University).
University of Kansas and held many responsibilities
during his time in Lawrence. He was highly
recommended by not only the staff at the University
Frank
McCarthy
Head Coach
Head Coach Frank
McCarthy is beginning
his tenth season at
Sheridan College. The
Lady Generals are
coming off of another
outstanding season
winning the NJCAA
North Sub-Region IX
Title, making it to the
Region IX Tournament quarterfinals, and finishing with
a record of 20-12. The Lady Generals finished number one
in the nation in free-throw percentage at 74% and number
one in Region IX in field goal percentage at 45%. Not only
did the team excel on the court, but also in the classroom,
where they finished number one in the nation amongst
community colleges with a team GPA of 3.57. The team
had four Academic All-Americans; Kendahl Avery, Pavlina
Chudarkova, Mandy Mullock, and Leann Tushling.
The 2008-09 season still ranks as one of the best in the
history of Sheridan College, winning the NJCAA North
Sub-Region and the Region IX championship to advance
to the National Tournament in Salina, KS. The Generals
finished with an overall record of 29-7, and they are 76-
24 over the last three years for a 76% winning percentage,
which is one of the tops in Region IX. The Generals were
ranked as high as 13th in the nation, as they led the country
in free-throw percentage at 72.8% and 3-point percentage at
48%. Before his move to Sheridan College, McCarthy had an
extremely successful venture at Montana State University,
a Division I institution in Bozeman, MT. In his final year
at MSU Bozeman, Coach McCarthy’s team finished second
in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats gained their best
win-loss record in seven years, with an 18-9 standing. Prior
to his experience at Bozeman, Coach McCarthy served for
ten years as head coach for the Montana State University
– Billings Yellowjackets a division two school, where he
posted an incredible 190-90 record, becoming the all-time
winningest coach. Under Coach McCarthy’s direction the
Yellowjackets advanced to the NCAA Division II National
Championship in 1999, and a Pacific West Conference
Cameron Karajanis
Assistant Coach
Cameron Karajanis joins
the Lady Generals staff for the
second consecutive season and
is now the head assistant for
the women’s program. During
last year’s 20-12 season in
which the Lady Generals won
the North Sub-Region IX title, Cameron helped with the
44
crown. In 2009, that team was inducted into the Hall of
Fame at Montana State – Billings. His work was rewarded
as he was named the Pacific West Coach of the Year, the
Region VIII Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for National
Coach of the Year honors. Seven of Coach McCarthy’s
Yellowjackets were named All-Americans, while three were
honored with Pacific West Conference Players of the Year.
Frequently his teams were polled in the top twenty lists for
Division II institutions, while appearing in five consecutive
NCAA tournaments, and four straight Pacific West titles.
In 2004, he was inducted into the Montana State – Billings
Hall of Fame.
Community College basketball is nothing new to
McCarthy. Before taking the position at MSU – Billings,
McCarthy led the Eastern Wyoming Lady Lancers to a 19-
11 record, setting a new mark for school record victories.
His time at EWC earned him the honor of the Wyoming
Conference Coach of the Year. He was also named Wyoming
Conference Coach of the Year for the 1987-88, 2003-04,
2004-05, and 2007-08 seasons. Previous to his collegiate
endeavors, Coach McCarthy was named Wyoming High
School Coach of the Year four times, and the winningest
High School coach in Powell, Wyoming. He posted an
86-50 record, winning five regional championships and
four conference titles, and in his final year of high school
coaching, his team advanced to the state championship
game. McCarthy began his coaching career at the Sidney
Boy’s Club in Australia, returning to the U.S. to head both
the boy’s and girl’s basketball programs at St. Labre High
School in Ashland, MT.
Student athlete is the term used to describe Coach
McCarthy’s recruits and team members. While at MSU
Billings, the Yellowjackets were selected eighth overall for
WBCA Academic Honor Roll, and had a graduation rate
of 97.6%. In 1997-98 all five senior starters were named
First Team All-Academic. McCarthy earned his Bachelor
of Science degree in elementary education from Eastern
Montana College in 1979 and received a Master’s Degree in
Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in
1988. During the off season Coach McCarthy serves as the
head coach for the Wyoming – Montana All Star Classic, a
series featuring the ten best players from each state. He has
compiled a 546-286 record in 32 years of coaching. Frank
and his wife, Amy, have 4 children, sons Jake, McKye, and
Luke, and daughter, Taylor.
management of the program. Cameron will enjoy a greater
capacity this season, as he helps out with recruiting,
scouting, practice planning, and many other roles. Cameron
is pursuing a career in physical therapy with a coaching
degree on the side.
Originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, Cameron came
from a very athletic family. Cameron attended Cheyenne
Central High School where he played both football and
